Yes context is one thing, but tone, inflection and clear wording not in your favor.

In my family, sarcasm was presumed and appreciated. It does seem to go over the heads of many, so I think it’s cultural. I often think I don’t need a /sarc tag, and yet apparently I do. As a friend once said, it takes all the zing out of a joke when you have to explain it.
