Great post!
My parents used to go to the Redskins and paid a $1.00 a seat. Their friends, Washington’s movers and shakers of the time, were aghast that they would stoop that low. Of course at that time, pro football was viewed like we view “professional” wrestling.
We, my three sisters and I, inherited the season tickets that my father bought when they became available, so we each got to go to 2 home games.
We gave them up shortly after the move to Landover. We have no regrets.
I like it. It is good passive aggressive. If they are going to take the name away, leave it blank.
How about the Washington Generals as in the Harlem Globe Trotters? Or the Washington Lawyers or Washington Lobbyists?

I was kind of hopping for the “Swamp Things” or perhaps the “Beltway Bandits.” Oh well I guess the “Washington Generics” will have to do.

and then there’s the issue of the poor sportscasters having to say things like the “Football Team Est 1932s” are first and goal with 7 to go ...
however, i particularly the like the redundancy in “Washington Football Team”, like maybe their fans don’t know that they play football or that it’s even a team that plays, but who knows, maybe they’re actually worried about that ...
still, i think plain ‘ol “football” is ambiguous because we don’t know what KIND of football ... so, i think they need to reconsider the name and call it “Washington AMERICAN Football Team” just to be absolutely sure that everybody understands exactly what they can expect to see ...
