A pair of sea lion pups splashed and played at Point La Jolla last week, chasing each other in circles through a sheltered pool, while other pups lounged on the beach or sheltered in a crevice between rocks.
Surrounding them was a crowd of visitors, cellphones in hand, some within arms reach of the baby marine mammals.
The spur of land between La Jolla Cove and Boomer Beach is one of a handful of sea lion rookeries, or birthing beaches, on mainland California, making it a rare place to view the newborn pups with their mothers. But throngs of visitors, captivated by the baby sea lions, may be placing both themselves and the animals at risk, wildlife advocates say.
Spectators who approach the animals can cause them to retreat into the sea, disrupting their normal behavior and possibly separating mothers and pups, said Robyn Davidoff, a docent with the Sierra Club Seal Society of San Diego, a volunteer group dedicated to preserving the regions harbor seals and sea lions.

People are retarded, that said, 2 of my Vietnam vet buddies took the old mans truck to mexico got drunk and captured a seal, they got rid of it but that seal crapped all over the bed of the truck.
Monty said they never could get that **** off. LOL
Meanwhile Ca is on fire again, they are having brown outs again and the Sierra club is worrying about the seals.

Had a buddy in college that grabbed a chipmunk. It opened his hand up like a circular saw.
Why people mess with wild animals is beyond me.
The fresh lobster was used as bribes to the master chief for a day or two off duty.
There is (or was pre-COVID) a place in San Francisco called Fisherman’s Wharf. The seals like to gather around pier 39.
I went there once and the closer you get to the basking seals, the nastier and more pronounced was the reeking of urine. I only went back when forced to by some out of towners. They didn’t stay long either. Not in that spot.
Too bad that there were no cameras present when the sealion, that was ripping salmon out of our net up in False Pass, Alaska, popped up by the stern rollers and was real surprised when treated to Mr 12ga double ought buck, receiving point blank a nice 4inch dia red spot on his chest and slipping quickly bank under the water.
nasty critters best avoided
