Question to the internet savvy:

What exactly does a “domain name seizure” consist of? Is it just instructions to the main domain servers that that name is out of action? I don’t picture a raid like they conducted on Roger Stone’s place, or seizure of hardware.

domain names, the english like names you’re familiar with, are aliases for the ip address(es) where the website actually resides on the internet. this association is kept in the DNS, or domain name service (registry).

when they ‘seize’ it, they remove the original routing of traffic to the normal machine and re-route traffic to a new machine by changing the dns entry.

this only slows down dim witted terrorists but it does make it more difficult for recruits to find them.

at that point, the terrorists would hand out a series of ip addresses instead... which is much more complicated for normies to remember
