A little known fact is that Sean Connery was NOT the first actor to play James Bond. He was the third. Barry Nelson played Bond in a 1954 CBS TV adaptation of Casino Royale and Bob Holness was Bond in a 1950s live South African radio presentation of Moonraker. Connery was, however, the first big screen cinematic Bond.

The movie is flawed, but the story really is great and I think he did a great job even in that one.You and I must be the only ones that feel that way.
Saw it over a decade ago as a lark. Was expecting to riff on it like MST3K, based on the scathing reviews and shots of 40yo Connery in the "red diaper".
I found it quite compelling, as an old-school sci-fi flick with actual questions about life, immortality, and the modern age.

Outland was a pretty shoddy flick, but he was still very Connery-ish in it.

My absolute favorite. There was no one like him. Shortly before my mother died, we discussed how there were no more “stars” left, save for him. He was a real man who valued his privacy but also maintained and appreciated the fans who admired his work. Hollywood celebrity types can never match his talent. I suppose no one ever will.

My favorite Sean Connery movie was The Man who Would be King. It was such a pleasure to watch such fine acting. His co-star was Michael Caine, another great actor. The two of them together was magic.

I found the “Jeopardy” skits one of the few riotously funny skits in the modern SNL era.
I also thought they captured Mr. Connery’s IDGAF attitude, and I like to think he found them funny.

I saw him first in “Darby O’Gill and the Little People” with Janet Munro as “Katie.”

After leaving the Bond series, Connery had difficulty getting parts. John Boorman, the director of Zardoz, got Connery on the cheap as Connery was almost desperate for work. Although the effects in Zardoz are laughable by today's standards, the story stands up. And a young Charlotte Rampling doesn't hurt either.

RIP, Mr Connery. He used to live next door to my great uncle and aunt in a LA high rise. I also loved him in the Untouchables.

A great actor, one of our favorites. RIP
Me too. He brought it to every roll. Another one is Jonathan Prime. Really sorry to hear this. I have had my fill of 2020.
