The NBA reached an agreement with the National Basketball Players Association to temporarily stop randomly testing players for marijuana use during the 2020-21 season.T
“Due to the unusual circumstances in conjunction with the pandemic, we have agreed with the NBPA to suspend random testing for marijuana for the 2020-21 season,” league spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement, “And focus our random testing program on performance-enhancing products and drugs of abuse.”
Marijuana will remain on the NBA’s banned substances list. Players who have previously tested positive or given the league reason to suspect use can still be tested for the drug and penalized. However, the league signaled a potential shift in philosophy last summer, when it suspended random marijuana testing for the 22 teams in the Orlando Bubble.

Who cares if these people use weed? It’s not like it’s an athletic advantage, although personally, I don’t care if all the sport people use whatever drugs. It’s all a cult anyway.

For a group of people who bang on about ‘stereotypes’ NBA players sure do seem to adhere religiously to a stereotype.
Money and flattery have convinced them they’re on the right path but ESPN is teetering on financial ruin and may be kicked out of the Disney nest.
Sinking ratings and covid related revenue shortfalls will not be felt fully until 2021 but more likely 2022-23. At that point players who have seen salaries go only one direction are in for a shock.
NBA might do fine in liberal big cities such as L.A., S.F., Oakland, etc but I cant see how they can continue to do well in rest of America such as Indianapolis, Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City.
Heck, after the House passed a bill legalizing it, and the Senate will follow if the Demoncrats win Georgia, why shouldn’t they suspend testing for it?

We managed to go a couple of centuries as a nation without testing everyone for weed.

Right, I also don’t care what drugs they take, they are simply entertainers, if “artificial” things make them more entertaining, so what what? If plastic surgery makes an actress more entertaining, what’s the difference?
At another site a comment was “I’d start watching again if each player took a quaalude before each game. Comedy gold!”

Any discipline in this area should be the decision of individual teams.
Only major-league franchise in places like OKC and San Antonio. Basically a license to print money before they got so woke.

If a team decides it’s bad for profits, that’s their lookout.
