I am about ready to go to bed but I want to post this before I retire for the evening.
I just finished watching Coach Carter starring Samual Jackson and I thought it was a good movie. However, during the end of the film I had a thought. Movies that Hollywood have put out over the years - Coach Carter, Hoosiers, The Incredibles, the majority of the superhero films, etc. - a lot of successful movies portray conservative principles - hard work, honesty, success based on personal achievement. We are told, that the majority of Hollywood are liberals, yet some of their most successful films promote conservative values. I cannot think of a single film that promotes the state being in control and liberty is non-extistant and is a successful film.
I am tired and so this may not be coming out right, but has anyone else noticed this dichotomy?
Conservatism is the key to prosperity, but Hollywood doesn’t want a too prosperous society because that creates a possible threat their hedgemony. So, they sell liberalism to the masses to make them lazy and unmotivated.
I’m glad you noticed.
I’m trying to think of a leftist movie that was a commercial and critical hit. “The Way We Were” comes to mind, as it idolizes the 1930s Commies who were pushing Stalinism here and in the Spanish Civil War.
But, yeah, many hit movies do basically have conservative values/messages. And once in a blue moon, even a flick with a stridently politically incorrect take on something like abortion will somehow sneak through. A few years ago, I saw “Nocturnal Animals” with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal, and I was stunned that Hollywood A-listers had somehow starred (or had been tricked into starring) in an anti-abortion film. After I finished viewing that one, I was stunned, thinking, “Uh, did anyone else realize what this movie was about?!” And, yes, they did, e.g.:
“’Nocturnal Animals’: Hold Up, Did Tom Ford Make A Movie Shaming Abortion?!”

Think I’ve been to a movie theater once in the past 10 years and that was to see “Hacksaw Ridge”.
Fantastic movie.
BTW, AMC is owned by China. Doubt I ever go to a movie again.
Plenty of them. They’re called dystopian
ping
Hollywood hypocrites will do anything for a dollar.
Look at how many make their names in films with firearms and then announce they are gun control advocates....a pox on the lot of them!
Nothing worth watching at the theater anymore. The new version of TRUE GRIT was the last time I was at a theater. I don’t even rent new movies on cable. But I got hundreds of good old movies from 1912-1985.
You mean didnt spend money to watch American Sniper and piss off the left?
I have a list from Red Dawn onwards, being from the biz. I always tell people to check out Cocktail with crazy Tom Cruise. Probably the most pro-capitalist movie in recent decades. Pretty much pro-America: young Gi discharged from the army wanting to make his own business because no one wanted to hire him, gets a little successful, meets a girl, gets her pregnant, and marries her not wanting any money from her parents, and tells his best friends hot wife to stop cheating on him.
The best quote in the movie about his arrogant community college teacher who ridiculed every business plan: “the reason why you teach here is because you couldn’t hack it in the real world”. Teacher fails him LOL
