I remember in the 1970s Johnny Carson made a joke about toilet paper, and there was a rush on the stores the next day.
Same for sugar in those same years.
He made a joke about Emus and the next day the Emu market collapsed. People were turning them loose as there was now no place to sell them.

Sending toilet paper ahead of trip is a very good strategy, if you go to many countries. All communist countries for sure!
I am just worried, if, sometimes, in near future, people will have to send themselves toilet paper to America, before they visit.

Absolutely! I got jumped by the Cholla in December, and I am still recovering. Those are super nasty, even just on extremities! I cannot even imagine using it for toilet paper. Ouch!
This is why toilet paper is always first to disappear!
Every country turning bad (like communist) starts to see toilet paper shortage.
Basic law of economy:
Most people really need it all the time, it is hard to substitute.
It is cheap and lasts forever.
Easy to hoard.
So, if is shows up, people just buy as much as they can.
This is not that bad, yet. During real shortage, people start stealing paper from public facilities. Eventually you will need to carry a roll with yourself all the time!

I remember the toilet paper in the USAF fifty years ago. It was so slick it would not take s—t off of anyone. We bought our own at the Base Exchange.
I have a small investment retirement funds. Very small. Every few weeks they send me a big thick book of “Prospectus”. That paper is very absorbent. Much better than the old Sears catalogs.

Anyway, newspapers, like the NY Times, are a lot better than shiny catalogue paper. That glossy stuff just does not take anything!

Another reason: Longshoremen—dock workers-—are NOT showing up for work:
“Afraid of getting Covid”-—but in reality, they are making MORE $$$$ staying at home & getting Unemployment & the $300 a week Fed bonus to Unemployment than they were making working.
A pic a few days ago of ships waiting outside the Port Of Los Angeles showed at least 12 ships—and not all of them-—that were being held up because not enough dock workers.
Then——the trucks who haul those containers re lined up waiting to get the containers they have been contracted to pick up...
The daisy chain of crap is never ending.
So do we run out and buy 3 million rolls of TP? Or do we buy 3 million shipping containers? 🤔
