So true! I've been there on work assignments twice in the last 8 years. Absolutely beautiful place, but also very contradictory. on one hand it has some of the harshest puritanical laws on Earth, but is also one of the most lucrative places in the world for professional prostitution.
I escaped Dubai.
Literally. In Dubai you have to pay for accommodations in advance in yearly chunks. Which are paid off monthly through a housing allowance. So that means a mandatory loan from a bank. Unless you arrive in Dubai with $12000 or so ready to pay for housing.
Also in Dubai once your employment is terminated, the last bank deposit is marked “EOS” (End of Service). This informs the banks and the immigration authorities that all loans, credit cards are immediately payable.
You also must give your passport over for cancellation of the visa.
I wasn’t making the $10k a month some in the financial or oil sector make, more like $3000 a month, with most of it going home for family support and a mortgage.
Not having the $15k immediately on hand meant one of two options. Prison or fleeing the country. Luckily it was a Thursday. I told them I will bring my passport in on Sunday for canceling. Instead, I took the next Cebu Pacific flight out of the country 3 hours later.
I knew I was eventually going to be terminated as Australian management was replaced by Indian management earlier that year, and Indian students started to get so special privileges - like getting automatic passes on coursework, so I shipped everything home prior, and lived out of 2 suitcases for a few months.
Got to the airport and scared shitless. Instead of the automatic passport and ID gate, I was told to go to a immigration counter (all the gates were down, it seemed. Longest wait in my life waiting for the boarding call.
On the plane, the Dubai police actually removed 3 people (credit card debt).
Relief when the plane took off and make its way to Cebu.
Still being chased to the day. Won’t pay a cent until these debt collectors from Dubai follow the US FDCPA. The Indian debt collector told my Denver lawyer to shove our American laws and protections up his rectum.
There are tens of thousands (mainly South Asians and SE Asians) rotting in Dubai prisons for debt.

If not, use your imagination. What oh what could very beautiful young women from impoverished countries EVER see in a place where there are men earning lots of money far away from their families???

Yeah I saw that, European woman have zero hang ups with nudity so refreshing compared to the prudes else where. But while in Dubai one must play by their rules or be in tight with someone of power the corruption is second only to Saudi when it comes to partying on the DL.
Girls know they have assets and guys far away from home making half million plus a year tax free it’s not rocket algebra.
Sure there is “office” work I’m a geologist we don’t go to the field anymore we have 3D seismic and gravity or aeromag surveys run for us and we sit in the aircon and do interpretations the reason we have to be in country is the UAE doesn’t let any data out of the country all computers are theirs no hard drives no thumb drives no cell phones inside the work area’s get caught and it’s espionage which is a death penalty offence by beheading. Matters not to me I drop my electronics at the check in box and finger print inside the inner door they pay enough to not even think of making a side deal

You are absolutely right, first off never take a corporate credit card from a UAE Corp that’s how the debt racks up. I ALWAYS us my own LLC cards and get reimbursed at worse I’m out whatever they refuse to pay me back. Second while technically illegal ALWAYS have two passports I routinely “loose” a passport and get a replacement which the chip is promptly uh malfunctions Google how to kill a passport chip then you can give them your burner passport and still have a second one to get out with. I’m a dual national anyways so I usually have three passport two blue ones and a green EU one as well. Oil guys make 30k to 60k a month if not you are getting robbed. I have never had an issue with leaving I own my own company so all work is consulting for a time period that my visa is good for I won’t say even a single day longer than that visa is good for if they want me longer I fly to Germany or the UK and wait till a whole new via comes I won’t even risk an extension.
