Fake history, politics and propaganda taught by public school government bureaucrats is making it even worse.
I did an exercise with my kids a few years ago. Out of the 6-7 hours per day spent in high school, I asked them to calculate how much time they actually spent “learning.”
Subtract everything else from time between classes, gym and health class, to lunch, school announcements, teachers trying to keep order, stupid questions from unprepared classmates, teachers randomly talking or complaining about their spouses, etc…
It usually came to about 2 hours per day.
With the growth of the Internet, schools are becoming less and less important to real life every day.
If a kid wants to learn it is all there on the computer/cell phone.
If they don’t want to learn, then nothing will help them.
Right now the dinosaur teacher unions, leftist propagandist and pervert teachers, and public schools are hanging on for dear life, but they are headed for the dustbin of history.
There _will_ be a better way. Hopefully some young Freepers will have the vision and the work ethic to create it.
But it comes with a lot of homework.
Much of the teaching is pushed onto homework/parents because the schools are not doing their jobs.
When I home schooled my kids we spent two the three hours each day on school. They were free to do whatever they wanted after that. We didn't waste time. As for life skills - mommy and daddy provided those, just like previous generations.
That’s ok. Do the same thing at work. You get similar results.
Working at home without her office mates...my wife is usually done with her “work” around 11:30 am.
We did kindergarten for about 45 minutes a day and by high school they did about four a day if you don’t count educational extracurricular activities.
Not to brag but they did FANTASTIC
I don’t think my kids are learning a whole lot; but they seem to have a good time and have lots of friends - so I don’t really care at this point
My older son is entering high school next year I hope they step it up a little bit academically
Anytime they’re ready I have three engineering degrees
That’s pretty generous.
When I asked some public school teachers I knew well and knew would be honest how much time was lost to non academic activities, they said on a good day, 50%. On a bad day 90%.
School is largely tax funded babysitting. Any parent who insists on working from home, but wants their children to do in-person learning is doing so because they miss said babysitting.
