I, my sister, her boyfriend and my infant nephew arrived in Louisville the evening of the Kentucky Derby 1973. It was a mad house bumper to bumper with no hope of finding a place to stay. We were clueless what was happening to us at the time.

Q: How many horses can start in the race?
Currently a maximum of 20 horses can run in the Kentucky Derby. The largest field was 23 horses (1974) for the 100th running of the Kentucky Derby. The smallest field was just 3 horses (1892 and 1905).

It’s standard procedure. And lots of horses are in English races, even the big steeplechases.
20 is the max (now) for the Derby, while usually every race holds to 14 because of the standard gate.

Well, maybe I can talk about horse-racing vicariously through FR.
Have NO CLUE what is going on.
I cut off racing around the Belmont when jockeys were kneeling for St. George of Floyd and then the Derby where they wore “BLACK LIVES MATTER” down their white pants. Even while massive ARMED to the teeth threatening demonstration went on just outside their Derby-day doors, by the civilly named “Not F@#$!@$ Around Coalition”.
Then I found out Stronach (which includes MJC Pimlico and Laurel) paid homage to BLM through all the sites stating how terrible we are and we must fight for just-us.
Haven’t paid attention.
Stuck with my old, old horses and old DRFs before it went woke.

"What's the over-under on the number of minutes they will feature queers on camera?" The silver lining on this ridiculous plandemic and obnoxious BLM garbage is that it seems to have restored a measure of seriousness to at least racing. Weir (and his f@g hag Lipinski) were shitcanned after 2018, his prima donna act got stale and he took the DWTS route instead.
As for the non-gays:
Big John McCrirrick died in 2019.
Don't know what happened to Hank Goldberg.

Biggest crowd at a sporting event since CCP virus.
Wasn't going to watch but NBC has done a pretty good job of covering this.
Nice to see people enjoying themselves.

Haven’t seen too many masks in the crowd. I’ve heard, if mixed correctly, juleps kill the covid.

My first Derby was in ‘78, the year of the streakers. As they were climbing the flag pole, everyone started throwing food. Not a nice time. From then on, we had tickets in the stands. $$$$$

Medina Spirit Bob Baffert-most wins 7, by a trainer in Kentucky Derby!
And I believe the horse was bought for $1000? Wow!
4th Derby win for John Velasquez.
