Jessica Washington, a single mother of two, moved from Chicago to Las Vegas in 2006 after she lost her airline job and needed a fresh start. In some ways, she found it: She moved into a roomy apartment, got hired by the Transportation Security Administration, and bought a used BMW.

Since moving to Nevada, Washington has received dozens of tickets totaling about $4,431, a debt that ballooned to more than $20,000 with additional fines and fees, according to data analyzed by a law clinic that recently began helping her.

“received dozens of tickets totaling about $4,431”

Are we suppose to feel sorry for her?

Obvious systemic whatever. IF I had that many tickets I would be without a license. Must be an equity thing. Glad she found a job with ‘tsa’. I’ve had two tickets in 11 years in NV. They both got paid as indicated so........

Note how the media has to use a BLACK PERSON to add a ‘Racial Justice’ angle to the story.

As to blacks being pulled over more. It would be interesting to see if the same applies at nighttime as daytime, since it’s very difficult for cops to determine race at night in a pullover.

What kind of background check are you subjected to as a TSA employee?

Are deadbeats welcomed?

She'd make a lovely tenant.

Here we go again: The law is clear, she chose to ignore it, and now complains she’s a victim. Man, I am so tired of people refusing to accept responsibility for their actions. Take her car, sell it, and apply the proceeds to her fines.

Las Vegas might abuse driving offenses as a money-maker, but this woman’s basic problem is gross irresponsibility. The article buries the cause of her woes — speeding, reckless driving, no insurance, etc. Civilization and its benefits die without voluntary compliance with the rules codified as Law. Too many leeches spoil the broth.

White people don’t have to pay tickets. They are free for us

Wonder what she did?

Many years ago I was arrested in NH for an out standing $15 ticket, that I thought was paid.

Had to go to court.

I'm "privileged white".

I was a hundred miles from home, before cell phones, the bail was over a hundred bucks, which I didn't have, it was in the middle of the night.

Fortunately, a friend, who owned a convenience store was there, nearby, and a friend of the troopers too.

The troopers were kind enough to take me there, he lent me the bail, and I was on my way.

The next day, to show my appreciation, I paid back the store owner with $20 "interest".

In court, I thanked the troopers for their help.

Well I guess the simple solution is to have no traffic laws at all, just let people roam down the highways like they are running through some jungle path chasing some prey or being pursued. Should be fun.

I had the “opportunity” one time to be broadsided on my drivers door by an urban outdoorsman. Seems he did not know the stop sign at the cross street on the highway meant stop, he proceeded through at 30mph. The upshot was the “bank car” was not insured.

https://nevada.public.law/statutes/nrs_706.772

Sec. 706.772
Administrative fines: Repayment plans; notice; notification provided to Department of Motor Vehicles.

...

If the person is unable to pay the full amount owed, enter into a plan of repayment with the Authority for the payment over time of the administrative fine.

This is specifically for Nevada, and I am sure all states have the equivalent. If you can’t pay the fine, don’t just ignore it and hope it will go away. Contact the government office and they will set you up with a payment plan.

Then START DRIVING SMARTER. When your registration comes up for renewal, pay it. If you get a warning about something on your car, fix it.

I have to weigh in on this matter...I was active duty Army out of Washington state...After my 3 years were done I was in Florida with my Massachusetts license AND an in state Florida drivers license as the state dictated this because I owned a house their....I got pulled over by a Port Richey officer and was informed {ARRESTED} that my TWO licenses were suspended because of an unpaid speeding ticket from an island in Puget Sound which I paid while stationed there. Took over 3 years and a lot of cash to exonerate myself from a paid ticket ...I asked the people at DMV’s of Florida and Massachusetts why I was never notified by them and how a small town cop had this bogus information on their system? Crickets and pay us was all I got...This person here is another PRIME example of the continued fleecing with “interest and penalties” which should never be allowed....other avenues such as tax refund witholding are far more logical than arrest and court and f_____g lawyers....what happened to me is far more common than most realize ....3 years to get some other clown to remove an erroneous post on the computers back in the late 80’s....still pisses me off to this day.

I can’t muster up even a microgram of pity for this stupid woman. If she’s too irresponsible to operate a car legally, she can f*cking walk or take the bus.

Since a vehicle can be described as a deadly weapon, continued improper use should be monitored more closely and have a price. Especially an assault weapon like a BMW, which probably sends a signal that the driver has money and privilege as well being a potential deadly weapon.

When you move from one location to another, you have to live with the new local rules. That could include moving into a better neighborhood, not just changing address.
