In the Kapiti Nature Reserve in southern Kenya, this dromedary is furiously undergoing a PCR test to detect a cousin of COVID-19, Mers, which could one day cause the next global pandemic.
Two metres high and weighing 300 kilos, the beast rumbles and struggles, restrained at the neck, muzzle and tail by three camel drivers, while the veterinarian in the blue coat hurriedly proceeds with the dreaded sampling.
"Taking a sample from the animal is difficult because you never know what can happen (...) if you do it wrong, it can be even worse because it can hit you, bite you," explains Nelson Kipchirchir, a vet in Kapiti.
On this foggy morning, one of the camel drivers will not escape a violent kick from the hoof during the nasal and blood samples taken from a dozen of the 35 dromedaries of Kapiti.

When pressed for oxygen, some fish and sea cucumbers will use their lower intestines to get a little extra out of their environment. Now, a team of Japanese researchers say that mammals are also capable of respirating through their rectal cavity, at least in a lab setting.
The team’s research is published today in the journal Med and describes the capacity for mice, rats, and pigs to survive longer and have more strength in low-oxygen circumstances when given oxygen gas or an oxygen-rich liquid through their rectums, in a process similar to an enema.
While fish like loaches and catfish use a similar method to gain additional oxygen in the natural world, this doesn’t appear to be an evolutionary adaptation for mammals. In other words, mammalian bodies can’t naturally do this, but with a little push from modern science, it becomes possible. Previous research has seen oxygen injected directly into mammalian bloodstreams, prolonging the lives of rabbits, but the rectal approach to the low-oxygen problem is novel.
The experiment, while disturbing, was designed to find new ways to save the lives of people whose lungs are failing.

Seems that it would be safer to just use an Elephant type general tranquilizer, allowing the Vet time for those annoying samples. Maybe cost and labor are factors. There may be just too many camels running loose, that must be tested.
Too many to be rounded up, doped up and monitored for all that time.
Besides, the rumor is that a Kenyan would walk a mile to get away from one enraged camel. So there may be a shortage of available assistants.

Two meters high (tall) and weighing 300 kilos …Wrong. Kilograms are a measure of mass; weight is a force. Something that weighs nothing in space would still have a mass of 300 kilograms (661 lbs on the surface of the earth).
Almost 18 months after the first human COVID case, medical science still cannot find the animal intermediary that allegedly passed the original virus on to human beings.
Just as interesting, no medical lab has been able to infect any bat species with the original virus, which means that transmission from bats straight to humans almost certainly did not happen.
One final note - remember the MERS respiratory virus?
That, in fact, did infect camels before it infected humans.
If any camels suddenly show up with COVID-19, I will be deeply suspicious of medical fraud.

With these new trendy emergency themes “global warming, ice age, ozone hole, acid rain...” where we are asked to subjugate ourselves and today DEMAND conformity, what you really see are all the traits of a social trend/fad combined with marketing of an idea in order to push an ulterior agenda.
There is almost always a degree of truth to the story, albeit the solutions offered sometimes don’t even address the stated problem, i.e. for Covid closing beaches, public pools, having positive Covid patients sent back into senior living homes... That is because politicians and activists grab these themes that are catchy and give some folks a cause to rally around, but they are actually using the weight of the stirred up masses for another an agenda may it be ruthless political self promotion like Cuomo or John Hopkins, opposition politics like the Democrats used it for early on against Trump, or to get lots of viewers like the MSM, or to make billions like big pharma which will also use this to push mandatory vaccinations, or big tech that is lined up to manage the new needed vaccination passports, or the CDC and NIH that saw their budgets grow by unprecedented amounts, etc.
We will live with the nonsense of Covid for eternity!
Just like we now will have a TSA, DHS and Patriot Act with us forever, Covid will live with us forever in the form of vaccination passports, a greater push to force people to get vaccinated for anything and everything etc. Hell, they were running water conservation adds on TV while New Orleans was under water during Katrina, why? because in the 1970s the big theme was that we will eventually run out of potable water and government has inculcated that nonsense into its bureaucracy, so it will live on “forever.”
Just in case my lungs begin to fail, please tell the doctors I do not want to die with a hose stuck in my tookus.
