a flying car is usually a lousy car and a lousy airplane.

You couldn’t pay me enough to fly in that thing. Nothing about it looks safe. It’s cool, though.

Not sure why anyone would ridicule it...seems pretty cool to me.

I need one that can also be a speed boat and mow my lawn.

Exactly. To achieve such a vehicle, you must compromise the best qualities of both that make each of them unique. In the case of an aircraft especially, one of these is weight considerations and the recognition that the form of an aircraft follows function.

Definitely the most “car-looking” flying car I’ve seen. Very clever way of hiding the wings.

THAT was the reason for this post.

Back in the 80's amd 90's, I had my wife's permission to go ahead and build an S-12 Airaile, as long as she, the kids and the bills had no worries.

I almost got there, but finances wouldn't catch up to my dream

The weight consideration was addressed with the lift body construction.

The body is in part, the airfoil

Sounds about as good as a rifle that doubles as a shovel.

So a sports car needs downforce, while an airplane needs lift. I’m sure there are compromises, but this is cool. It won’t be cool if there are thousands of them. People can’t even drive on roads with lanes painted on them.

I was waiting (back in the day) for Randy Schlitter to perfect the S-11 Pursuit, but it never got into production

A nifty little toy, but what’s the cost of ownership?

It’s a classic dream come true, an amazing accomplishment, but probably the builder is gay as no pretty thing would ever climb in that thing, plus the only way a man could have enough time and money to finish it.

Like a power boat that you might want to take on a long trip. you sacrifice speed for distance?
