The search for the new Washington Football Team name continues, but president Jason Wright has already ruled out some fan-endorsed selections.
In his “weekly brief” announcement on the official team website Monday, Wright discussed how the team would not consider the fan-favorite “Warriors” suggestion as the new team name and logo, which will not have “linkage to Native American imagery.”
“One might look at this name as a natural, and even harmless transition considering that it does not necessarily or specifically carry a negative connotation,” Wright wrote. “But as we learned through our research and engagement with various groups, ‘context matters’ and that makes it a ‘slippery slope.’ Feedback from across communities we engaged clearly revealed deep-seated discomfort around Warriors, with the clear acknowledgment that it too closely aligns with Native American themes.

My question is what will they replace the “Washington” with?
Just shorten it from “Redskins” to “Reds” and put a hammer and sickle on the helmet.
How about “The Pansies”? Sure the Left would love that.
I find their current name to be both endearing and ironic. They should keep it.
Seems like either the Lizards, or the Totalitarians, should be the leading names.
However, having coldblooded Communists denigrating Lizards is a valid objection to that first name.
I would just stick with “Football Team”, then you have to give the real name to tell the story.

They should all be football team number __ and eliminate names completely.

Since the NFL is ‘So Gay’ (their words, not mine), I would suggest the Washington Rainbow Poofters. Or, the DC Pillow Biters. Or, the Northern Virginia Sausage Kings.
If Washington Redskins was offensive why not just rename them the District Redskins or Columbia Redskins?
My nomination would be in for the 'washington snowflakes', 'flakes' for short.
Washington Weiners
There’s a Weiner conveniently available to be the mascot.
Too violent, especially when you consider they made a gang war movie with that name in the late 70s.
Or just do like soccer teams, FC Washington.
I heard Cincinatti Reds became Red Legs in the 1950s to avoid the association with Commie Reds.
