At least seven people were killed and 10 others injured in a 22-vehicle pileup during a sand or dust storm on Interstate 15 near the town of Kanosh, Utah on Sunday, CBS Salt Lake City affiliate KUTV reports. There were several children among the dead, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Rhoden told the station.
The "series of crashes" happened just before 5 p.m. Multiple ground and air ambulances were dispatched to transport crash victims for medical treatment.
Five of the seven people killed in the crash were in one vehicle. Two others who lost their lives were in another vehicle, Rhoden said.

So none of the idiot 4-wheeler drivers were at fsult?
I think you can also blame the anti-gas vehicle crowd as well. Regulations on truck drivers have become so restricted as to how long they can be on the road in a day, as well as mandatory rest periods, that these multi-load 18 Wheelers are a necessity for getting things across the county. There is also a severe shortage of drivers.
Its monsoon season here in the Southwest and effects most states from AZ to CO plus San Diego.
“Fault”
I-70 in Colorado. Near Golden. I-80 may be in Wyoming. North of Co.
Reason #27 why I’d never live anywhere west of Iowa.
Absolutely. The problem is folks have some idea they can drive the “speed limit” even when they can’t see two feet in front of them. They just will not slow down until they run into something. I have been in many of these and they are absolutely nutz flying along completely blinded.
“There is also a severe shortage of drivers.”
55-60,000 long-haul drivers were denied CDL-1 & CDL-2 licenses, due to drug and alcohol use, over the past 18mos.
Sandstorms are hell on the paint job.
I can imagine. But at least you got a break from the “Aussie wave”.
NHTSA stats over the years have shown that the majority of accidents involving tractor trailers are usually not the fault of the tractor trailer drivers.
I can believe that. Car drivers act like idiots around semi’s.
Speed limits in Utah? They’re just a bad joke around these parts. Average speeds along I-15 in central Utah are 90+ mph. Average.
Same in Az... 80+ is the norm. Problem is no one slows down when they can’t see anything. If they can see the lines to stay in their lane they just keep the pedal to the metal until they run into something.
A buddy of mine in California told me about "Tulle Fogs" (sp?) where you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you. Said they were inching along and kept hearing muffled "thuds" (WTH??) They pulled off the road for a while. Later on they saw the results of a 20+ car pileup and understood that those "thuds" were the people who were still barreling past them at 70 mph.
Yep, No sense at all.
