The siblings of a West Caldwell 18-year-old charged in a drunken driving crash that seriously injured his twin brother begged him not to get behind the wheel as he tried to leave a house party in town, according to authorities.

Anthony Dattoli was “obviously intoxicated” when he made his way to an Audi A4 parked outside a home on Annin Road early on the morning of June 27, according affidavit of probable cause filed in support of the charges.

Accident happened 27 June 2021(?) but is only being reported now apparently. Twins are legendarily close but this shows haw badly alcohol can destroy that connection! To hit one's own sister and then to drive blocks with one's twin on the hood to try to stop the drunk driving ... what guilt must that produce within the drunk and the family?

Only Anthony is fully identified but both his twin bother and his sister tried to stop him! I pray for this family, they truly need it!

I am posting this because, while I am not a teetotaler, adolescence and alcohol are frequently a bad combination BUT add a motor vehicle and it escalates! I find it hard to believe that this drunk brother will ever be able to recover the relationship he had before this non-accident! A true tragedy!

Both Twins ahve a tendancy to make impulsive and very poor decisions. Twin #1. Punches his sister in the face, punches his brother then hops into a car.
Twin #2. jumps on the cars hood “to stop his brother from driving while drunk”.

It didn’t work, he drove off anyway, with his brother still standing on top of the car hood.

Drunk Boy then crashes, sending Twin #2. flying to the ground, suffering leg injuries.
Twin #1. Runs away and hides, leaving his brother writhing in pain on the ground.

This is a horrible story and that young man will have to live with the consequences of his actions the rest of his life (and his twin brother will be sadly suffering from them). You can't undo an amputated leg.

As a sidenote, young adults are notoriously hard to buy for at Birthday or Christmas time. I'm thinking a pre-paid Uber card might be a good gift option for "party-age" young adults in your family. Might prevent them from getting into a bad situation someday.
