I’m on vacation with family and a heated discussion ensued about North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba etc. Of course it was about the wonders of their healthcare and general lifestyle.
Can anyone please either point me in the right direction to a web site or ping me with a synopsis of North Koreas history? I’d greatly appreciate it.
......usually, if you do a Google search for “North Korea History” you can find lots and lots of sites for your viewing pleasure.....same for other countries, states, etc.... give it a try....
Thanks but Don’t trust google for accuracy. What a great suggestion though!
If you’re on this site Google should not be your go-to, default search engine.
Venezuela just took a bunch more zeros off their currency. Isn’t socialism great? Show them the CEO of whole foods (wokester’s paradise) comment where he says socialism has been tried 41 times and has failed every time.
....true.... yes, there are other search engines out there but I was trying to use Google as an example of how he (she?) can find the info he is seeking...one of the wonderful aspects of the internet is that with a little bit of searching you can find almost any kind of info you want...
North Korean Defector Whose Escape Went Viral Speaks Out In U.S. TV Interview
I have been watching You Tube videos on a channel of North Korean army defectors who comment on various American Military equipment. They are flabbergasted at the firepower and seeming automation.
It may be fiction but it is at least interesting fictions

Sounds like they baited you into a political discussion; a/k/a how to make vacation unpleasant. While patiently addressing their arguments with facts and examples has value, it probably won’t shake them. Try agreeing and amplifying. Tell them that you think that Cuba and North Korea provide great examples for how we should use government to enforce traditional sex roles and imprison homosexuals (Che had some really good statements on this). Tell them that North Korea is basically Asian Handmaid’s Tale, and that you think we should emulate literally everything they do. If they say they only are picking out the good parts, tell them to check their privilege.
Or, you could go the charts and graphs route. A legitimate question to ask them is why we don’t have all of these awesome things that Venezuela has. The Democrats have power. What is stopping them?
Another tactic is to show them how we already have all of these things. It’s a little more complicated, but, in practice, we really do have free healthcare and so on. What difference would relabeling it make?
It was a lot easier back when they would bring up Sweden and Norway. That was pitching underhand.
Thank you! Very helpful!
“History of North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba”.......and the USA not far behind!
Tell them to go there and pull turnips.
You can throw in a personal anecdote from a fellow FReeper during your discussion.
When my parents decided to leave communist Cuba, they had to ask for “permission” to emigrate elsewhere. By doing this, they were deemed to have “betrayed” the revolution and the commies had them both fired from their jobs. They weren’t allowed to hold another job either, as they were now pariahs. Only through the grace of God did they (and I) avoid starvation and eventually manage to leave Cuba.
Sound familiar?
-Don’t want the jab? Well, you’re just selfish and don’t care about other people.
-Don’t want the jab? Well, you’re just going to have to lose your job.
-Don’t want the jab? Well, you’re just going to be ostracized from society.
As many others have written on here, these past 18 months have nothing to do with a virus, a vaccine or public health, rather it’s about subjugation and control.
Don’t fall for it. Don’t bend the knee.
But the salaries did not add zeroes at the same pace!
I summarize the Democrat's plan as "Down, Down, Up":
Chase 'em down.
Hold 'em down.
Vax 'em up.
The history of most South American countries involves an elite class of European immigrants and their progeny lording it over the indigenous people. The elites alternate between leftwing socialism and rightwing socialism. Occasionally you get some quasi free market government, but those are usually found to have committed various human rights abuses in order to keep the peace.
As far as health care goes, though, I understand a number of Americans have retired to various South American countries because the health care is decent and very inexpensive. If you stick to the big cities where the ex-pats congregate then retired life can be quite nice... until the next revolution kicks in.
