The resignation could be an attempt to stave off impeachment by the state Assembly, which vowed to move forward quickly after James' report. But it's unclear if the assembly will now drop its impeachment plans, which would allow Cuomo to run for office again if he chooses. A growing number of Democrats had called for Cuomo to be convicted and barred from running again. Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou, a sexual assault survivor, said the chamber should still move forward with impeachment.
Some political observers believe that Cuomo is trying to keep his hopes for a fourth term alive by stepping aside before a possible impeachment.
"I expect in my lifetime, Andrew Cuomo to run for office again," said MSNBC host Chuck Todd. "What that office is? I don't know, but that's what this resignation tells me today. He wants to live to fight another day."
Despite Cuomo's announcement, much of Tuesday's news conference focused on batting back the allegations. The conference began with a presentation from Cuomo's lawyer Rita Glavin, who argued that James' report "contains errors" and "omitted key evidence."
"The report said I sexually harassed 11 women," Cuomo said. "That was the headline people heard and saw. The reaction was outrage. It should have been. However, it was also false."
Cuomo at the news conference apologized to a state trooper who accused him of unwanted touching and to the women he "truly offended" but argued that he did not think he did anything wrong.
"In my mind, I've never crossed the line with anyone," he said, "but I didn't realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn."
Cuomo said the situation was a "highly political matter" with "many agendas," arguing that the allegations were "politically motivated."

There needs to be a precedent to cite in the case(s) against Michigan’s Gov. Whitmer, so get on with whatever else needs to be done in order to proceed in that direction.
They must be out of their everlovin' minds. . . . prison time is in order. It's not only about sex but what about those poor nursing home people.

I'm not from NY and would go on record and say I would never go near the place, but what about a serial sexual abuser and incompetent executive do the voters find so attractive that they have to look to Cuomo for their next leader?
He can probably stay out of prison for the sex stuff, depending on how much evidence they have and the extent of it, but the complete disregard for human life with his covid nursing home screwup and coverup, should send him to prison for a while.

He’s out of office. The Dems drove him out. Maybe in response to the New Yorkers, he did send ten thousand old people sick with covid into nursing homes infecting residents and staff, maybe because he did something other than what we know.
The Dems are done with him. They will never pursue anything now that would bring attention to the facts.

He PROBABLY made a deal to resign and not be charged criminally.
He is being impeached/removed/resigning simply because they want NY to be the initiator of the Covid Passport.... nothing more.

I turned it on for a minute yesterday, and some black dude was doing a report, “Is This the Beginning of a Cuomo Comeback?”

And then he went on to say, “Will there be a President Cuomo?” Immediately went to another channel.
What happens now?
Well, they’ll do a LOT of talking about him in the news for about a week.
Then, we won’t hear ANYTHING about him for several months, maybe a year.
THEN, it’ll be announced that he signed a multi-million dollar deal with CNN or MSNBC as a commentator.
