(CNN)After Bart Schoenfeld's Chevrolet Bolt EV was recalled for the second time, he'd had enough.
GM had warned that some of the cars could have a manufacturing defect that might cause them to catch fire. For safety's sake, the automaker recommended Bolt owners restrict their use of the car to avoid straining the batteries, and park them away from their homes....
...In a process that took weeks to finally work out, Schoenfeld sold his Chevrolet Bolt EV back to GM for a price that was at about $10,000 more than he would have gotten simply by trading the car in to a dealer, he said, though he declined to provide specific numbers. It's a solution that many Bolt owners are resorting to, according to numerous social media reports and CNN Business interviews. GM would not say how many vehicles it has..

How many billions are going to spent before they admit that batteries should only be used in hybrids and not replace gasoline?
It’s OK.
Uncle Sam has Chevy’s back!
My two personal car-buying rules:
Rule #1. Do not buy a GM vehicle. Instead buy a Toyota, a Honda, or a Ford.
Rule #2. Refer back to Rule #1.
I understand that some folks might disagree. No problem. As the old saying goes, your mileage may vary.
It’s a Sword Of Damocles recall....
Who could relax with a car that could burst into flames!?
It's not exactly a status symbol but then I have never really cared that much for cars anyway....
My mechanic says it will probably run a lot longer than I will....
The stupid tire pressure sensor thingies died so I have a warning light that's on all the time...it sorta looks like a little butt glaring up at me..
That's why folks like them so much.
> Both my and my neighbors pickups caught fire spontaneously. <
I might have to scratch Ford off my list. If you don’t mind me asking, what were the models and years of the pickups involved?
“It’s not exactly a status symbol but then I have never really cared that much for cars anyway....”
Cars are appliances, not unlike a dishwasher or electric range. I never really understood the need to do much more than A to B transpo, but the terrain will differ, hence the need for ATV or 4x4. But if the terrain is too difficult there’s another appliance called an aero plane which can negotiate.
“The stupid tire pressure sensor thingies died so I have a warning light that’s on all the time...”
You can replace the stupid tire pressure sensor thingies. I wish utility stripped down versions were availble like in the 60s. They are rather stupid.
Both were 93. One F250 and one F150. His was never determined to be the switch. Mine was clearly the switch. I never reported it to Ford or .gov.
BTW apparently still going on today.

A poorly-made Lithium battery pack is a poorly-made Lithium battery pack regardless of whether it is on a full electric, or hybrid.
I know people who have build a pressure chamber from PVC pipe, paired 4 pressure sensors with the car, put the sensors in the pipe section, and pump it up to standard tire pressure. Presto! No more annoying light in the dash.
I’ll keep driving my good ol Dodge PU. 400,000 and going strong. V-10 parts are getting hard to find though.
I searched for my old Toyota model and year on youtube and turned up a video from about a week ago by a guy named Scotty Kilmer..
He bought a Toyota just like mine for 1000 bucks because it had some body damage from a collision... it has the same problem with the tire sensor...
This guy is sort of a character...

I guess I could hack the CANBus but it’s too much fuss
to put out a little orange warning light.
The “stupid pressure sensors” are expensive to replace. I consider the malfunctioning one in my care as a night light 😀.
My local mechanic said it would cost a few hundred to fix it...I gave him my best hairy eyeball look and said No friggin Way...
Until the batteries go dead in the sensors.
VW Audi used to do the sensors. Now they detect a low tire condition by differences in tire rotation measured by the Hall effect sensors at each wheel for ABS.
