WASHINGTON - At a community meeting Tuesday, D.C. Assistant Police Chief Chanel Dickerson made a deeply personal and stunning statement.
Dickerson, who is part of a $100 million lawsuit filed against the department by current and former female Black officers, said when she became pregnant as a young police cadet, she was told she had to have an abortion to keep her job.
"When I was 18-years-old as a police cadet, I was told I had to have an abortion or be fired from the MPD cadet program," Dickerson said. "Wow. My choice to have a baby was personal and it should’ve been mine alone and not for an employer ultimatum."
Dickerson shared that she never became a mother.
She went on to allude to misconduct involving another female officer who was trying to get put on a different shift.
"Fast forward from that time, I think about how my female colleagues, when I was promoted to sergeant. And it was another sergeant who was promoted with me and she needed a shift that was conducive to taking care of her child as a single mother. Unfortunately, she had to do things no woman should ever have to do to care for her child."
Dickerson is the highest ranking Black woman at the police department.
She spoke at a community meeting at Unity Baptist Church in Northeast and was joined by other current and former D.C. police officers who are part of the class action lawsuit alleging discrimination and harassment.
Dickerson later told FOX 5 reporter Lindsay Watts she hadn’t planned to share the story about being told to have an abortion, but decided to do it in the moment.

“Planned” Parenthood exists as a legacy to Margaret Sanger to continue to work to eliminate African-Americans.
Pretty straightforward.
That is exactly why the black population has remained at 13% for decades.
What is this gibberish?
I read it as sexual favors were required to get the preferred assignment. I could be wrong on that conclusion, just going with the percentages.
““Planned” Parenthood exists as a legacy to Margaret Sanger to continue to work to eliminate African-Americans.”
“Wow. My choice to have a baby was personal and it should’ve been mine alone and not for an employer ultimatum.”
Wow! My choice not to take a clot shot is personal and it should be mine alone...oh nevermind
There is president for this.
Iirc a waitress for a mexican restaurant got knocked up by the owners son. When the owner found out he demanded the waitress get an abortion or find a different job.
Court sided with the owner.
Yeah, not buying it. Looks like she was told she couldn’t go through the cadet training pregnant. Which seems reasonable.
Whether or not the word “abortion” was used...who knows?
Possibly. If it’s from a prepared statement, she needs a proofreader.
Why did she wait so long to mention this? If this actually happened to her, by keeping silent at the time, she basically gave the go-ahead for it to continue.
That being said, I'm a white female who worked in uniform in NY State's Correctional Services for 25 years. The year I took the Sergeant's exam, they gave extra points on the test to minorities. Despite there being fewer white female officers and supervisors in the department, white females weren't considered a minority. I got a 92 on the test, and was told I would probably get promoted within the next year. Five years later, and just before the list was due to be inactivated, I finally got my promotion. I had 10 years in the department by that time. During the time I waited, I saw several other people at my facility, get promoted before me because they'd been given extra points on the test. When you accepted a promotion, you had to go to the facility in the State where the vacancy existed. So, for at least 4 years, from the time I took the test, until they finally promoted me, I not only lost seniority as a Sergeant, I lost the salary that I should have had with the promotion that was withheld from me.
if you can’t get thru the most important class of yer life wiout getting knocked up, being a cop prolly isn’t for you...
If they can mandate other unwanted medical treatments why not this?
What did her husband have to say at the time?
Actually, per the 2020 Census, they are down to 12.1%.
Exactly—once the population has received the obedience training big corporations and governments will start issuing a long list of orders—women could be ordered to have abortions or have children—at the whim of the ruling elites.
If she was told specifically to get an abortion, that is a problem - but usually these kinds of positions require a promise not to get pregnant during sponsored training and some additional period such as during the first year.

You cannot fire someone for being pregnant. I’d need to see more info. And if the paternity ties to the owner’s son, his son might be on the hook for some liability of his own in child support were she to keep the child.
“If you were fired and you suspect that the reason was related to your pregnancy, you might want to consider taking legal action.”
