There was a wildlife show a few years ago about some young rogue male elephants which were terrorizing other animals and threatening local farmers. The young males were growing up without any adult males nearby, since those had been killed for their tusks by poachers. The solution the park management came up with was to import a couple of big adult male elephants to the area - calmed the young males down and got them under control almost immediately.

Why is this now necessary? We didn't used to have this level of violence in schools. There is a social shift that isn't being identified and addressed.

It's not like fathers have to constantly threaten violence to their sons to maintain order.

Consider me for example: I threaten my 6-foot-tall, 13-year-old son with physical violence no more than, oh, say five times a day.

Actually, we regularly take turns punching each other in the gut, just for the fun of it.

Am I "abusing" him? Am I inculcating him with "toxic masculinity?"

Whenever I assign him a particularly unpleasant chore, or punch him especially hard, he is wont to say, "I hate you, Pa!" To which I invariably reply, "Not enough!"
