Michigan city (Ann Arbor) will require all public restrooms to carry free menstrual products

Ann Arbor will require all public restrooms in the city to carry menstrual products under a new ordinance that takes effect in January.

It means pads and tampons, as well as soap and toilet paper, will have to be available for free in every public restroom throughout the Michigan city.

"We as a society, for too long, have not taken menstruation seriously," Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor told NPR. "Access to menstrual products is a fundamental human necessity."

Some U.S. states and cities already supply free menstrual products at certain locations, such as school and homeless shelters, but Taylor said he believes Ann Arbor is the first jurisdiction to require them in all public restrooms.

"It's a matter of equity and personal dignity," he said. "I'm just glad that we were able to provide a public good at a low cost."

Last year, Scotland became the first country to offer menstrual products for free.

Taylor said he proposed the ordinance after hearing from a high school student who was concerned that people without established residences would have a hard time obtaining menstrual products. Ann Arbor's city council passed the ordinance unanimously on Monday.

“I’m just glad that we were able to provide a public good at a low cost.”

Oh..so you are paying for it?

Otherwise, my restrooms are no longer public.

Jeez. I guess I’m old.

We used to take responsibility for carrying them with us at all times.

Maybe they need to offer free vending-machine food for those in need of a snack, free insulin vending-machines for diabetics, free vending-machines for diapers, ad infinitum...

What woman is going to want to use industrial grade menstrual products - let alone the actual hygiene.

It’s bad enough wiping with the cheap toilet paper.

"We as a society, for too long, have not taken menstruation seriously,"

Dummies can't offer products for a modest fee to cover costs. Nope--gotta tax everyone for those who refuse to take personal responsibility. Idiocracy.

“...pad and tampons...”

Those suckers will stop up a toilet in a heartbeat.

Not that I would stuff any of those things down a commode. Nope. I wouldn’t. Honest..

Well at least parents will know where to go to find menstrual products when their daughter needs one when out in public. I suspect the women’s bathroom facilities will be empty of any, but they can always wait until the men’s room is clear and dash in to grab what they need.

People will be stocking up at the restrooms. And then there won’t be any sanitary supplies in the restrooms.

I guess if it were equitable, it would be whatever you need.

But it isn’t and won’t be - it will only apply to the things important to leftists, as they march through their succession of politically-motivated ‘causes’.

So I guess you need to prep for yourself - like most of us have always done.

If they can make it to a public restroom, why can’t they make their way a store that sells what they need? How are they obtaining food and clothing?
