And what happens if you want a warm cabin on that trip.
This fetish with EVs all stems from government kooks buying into the “global warming is caused by CO2” theories and their incessant need to meddle in things they know nothing about.
We’ll stick with our 2500 diesel. We can hitch 8000 lbs of camper to it, point it west and in 6 hrs be on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. Without stopping for fuel. When an EV pickup can do that, including running heat or AC as necessary, I’ll consider one.
I bought a 2021 Tundra this year. Big V8. More than enough towing capacity for my needs. And if I tow a horse trailer 700 miles in one day...well, I CAN tow a horse trailer 700 miles in one day without spending 4 nights recharging my truck. But then, you’d be surprised how few motels have recharging stations. And I can’t wait to see how MUCH they charge for recharging a pickup!
But if all one does with a truck is go to work 3 miles away, carrying nothing in the bed, in good weather with no AC or heating required...maybe “zero emissions” truck will work. Although they OUGHT to be called “displaced emissions”!
When do all the Greenies, that gush over having an EV, start worrying about stuff like this?
Electric Vehicle Push Is Sparking Massive Deforestation, Environmental Damage
China Dominates the Global Lithium Battery Market ..... https://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/renewable/china-dominates-the-global-lithium-battery-market/#:~:text=China%20is%20among%20the%20five%20top%20countries%20with,of%20the%20world%E2%80%99s%20largest%20lithium%20reserve%20in%20Australia.
In 2019, Chinese chemical companies accounted for 80 percent of the world’s total output of raw materials for advanced batteries. China controls the processing of pretty much all the critical minerals–rare earth, lithium, cobalt, and graphite. Of the 136 lithium-ion battery plants in the pipeline to 2029, 101 are based in China.
Elon Musk praises China, says Tesla will continue to expand investments there ..... https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/26/musk-praises-china-says-tesla-will-expand-investments-in-country.html
As for the Greenies, Hipsters and others that say they care about the environment....They don’t. Another shining example of the hypocrisy of so many. Because they’re all still hooking up to a fossil fueled power source to charge those batteries.
Today’s hero, Elon Musk, because he’s talking smack to Fauxchahontas, BFFs with China. The country that pretty much controls the mining of the main components to make the cars. Won’t be much longer before they squeeze everyone out of the market with cheap cars, like all their other cheap stuff, or hold the industry hostage like they were doing with crappy drywall 25 years ago. Buy and drive at your own risk.
Saginaw, maybe. Then cool your heels (no pun intended) while you wait 45 minutes to fill er up so you can get to Grayling and do it all over again!
To show just how GREEN they are, owners of these cars should be required to charge them via renewable energy methods.
Similar situation here. I have a 2010 Expedition that I pull a 6,000 lb camper with. We go all over the place with it.
No way an EV can even come close.
And let’s not forget about all the tax incentives that are thrown at the manufacturers and buyers.
Georgia was giving $5000 in tax incentives to folks that were buying a $100k Tesla.
Please, someone tell me why the regular schmo should be funding taxbreaks to some rich guy that was able to afford a Sunday Driver for $100k.
And hope you're not stuck in a snow storm and traffic moving at 25 MPH>
Back in the 80's, I went up north with a friend (280 miles to Boyne City) and it was snow storm all the way. Took us 6 hours to drive up and 8 hours coming home on Sunday....
Hey, the great thing about an electric pickup is that you can put a gas-powered generator in the bed to recharge it every 300 miles or so!
“2014 gas-powered Silverado.”
Propane conversion?
Looks like he must have poured in a can of Seafoam.
If anyone wants to see REAL engineering, just go and watch about the engines on the Titanic.
Triple expansion engines and the exhaust from the two large steam engine cylinders went to the low pressure steam turbine at 9 psi. Then to the condensers.
That turbine was about 6000 HP if I remember right. About 6100 tons of coal per trip.
Of course, it made just a little over half a trip.
The sister ships made a few.
That’s what REALLY galls me. Every peasant is paying for the toys for the rich. It’s like Medieval Europe.
I don’t know about this truck, but Freepers should learn and understand about EVs a lot better. Many of the reactions I see are very knee-jerk and based on true-back-in the-day information and anti-EV theories that just did not pan out. GM is the worst EV maker so far with the Volt fiasco, but they are fixing all of them and the battery supplier is helping them pay for it. This Silverado truck might mark a turnaround for them, we’ll see. I think GM is actually better than Ford at electronics and software, but I like FORD build quality and design. EV’s like the VOLT and Prius were made ugly, weird looking on purpose, so their sales would be centered on those wanting to make a “sacrifice” to save the earth. “I care so much, I’ll drive this ugly car.” and it would not detract from Corolla or Camry sales.
Now things have changed with Tesla and F-150 Lightning looking like normal or even beautiful cars…except with drag strip performance. For running around town, an EV is the best car there is. Maybe on long trips and in the cold north, it’s another matter, but still many who are not in a hurry, will enjoy the drive while plotting and planning the best charger routes. I don’t take many long trips, don’t own anything to tow, and really not in much of a hurry these days.
I hopefully will be placing an order in a couple of weeks for an F-150 Lightning, that I might be trading in for a Cybertruck in 3 years. Lightning batteries are from a supplier who has NEVER had a battery fire, the batteries are also fully serviceable, by module, and replaceable. I’ll keep my Transit van for long trips and any light towing. So please don’t coal-roll me when you see me. You’ll know me by my Trump-DeSantis 2024 sticker.
I slide a ton and a half of camper into my 2500 and boondock in places where I’d need an awful long extension cord to recharge. But hey, these’ll be great for the urban cowboy hipsters commuting to Costco.
Exaclty. And when these things aren’t selling like they want them to, our state and federal government will pass some type of incentive. Thankfully, Manchin killed that bill that would have provided federal incentives for them.
As you correctly stated....Peasants giving the rich money for their rich boy/girl toys.
This could be President Trump’s campaign song in 2024, because Travis Tritt sums it rather nicely......

Electric vehicles are simply a means to limit people’s ability to travel autonomously.
Keep people confined to an area and make them dependent on either big business, or Government options to travel beyond that specific area.
and remember the Chevrolet Vega was the first of its class..How did that go??
