Dwayne Bernard Hickman, an actor, producer and television director best known for his starring role in the 1950s and ’60s sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” died of complications related to Parkinson’s disease on Sunday. He was 87 years old.

Hickman’s death was confirmed to Variety by the actor’s public relations head Harlan Boll.

Born on May 18, 1934 in Los Angeles, Calif., Hickman began screen acting at a young age with appearances in “The Boy With the Green Hair” and 1940’s “The Grapes of Wrath.” As a teenager, he starred as Chuck MacDonald in “The Bob Cummings Show,” acting alongside the titular comedian across the sitcom’s four-year run.

Well those of us a certain age will certainly remember Dwayne Hickman and his TV show The Many Loves of Dobie Gills. Not to mention his sidekick Maynard G. Krebbs.

Made me feel a little old today hearing of this, one of my favorite shows as a kid. Also featured Tuesday Weld, Stephen Franken, as Chatsworth Osborne, Jr., and a young Warren Beatty as Milton Armitage. And certainly don't forget Dobie's steady girlfriend Zelda Gilroy.

Adios Dwayne and thanks for all the entertainment.

One of my family’s favorite shows when I was very young. Just watched him in the Burt Reynold’s movie Sharkey’s Machine Friday night.

We didn’t get TV until 1965, so I didn’t see that show, but I have a copy of the Max Shulman stories around here somewhere.

I certainly remember that show. It came on after Dennis The Menance and before Ozzie & Harriet.

Chatsworth Osborne, Jr., was Rush Limbaugh’s nickname for Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson.

That was his brother Darryl Hickman.

Was that his brother Darryl or his other brother Darryl?

”Stephen Franken, as Chatsworth Osborne, Jr.”

Rush Limbaugh’s uncomplimentary nickname for a young Tucker Carlson…

Betty White died on New Year’s Eve DAY, the 31st of December, so no, she was NOT #1 for 2022
