If its that high, then it was more than likely more than a VEI 4.

St Helens was said to be around 79 thousand feet.

Will see. I want to see the hole after the whole thing settles down.

BTW, the largest eruption in the 20th century was in Alaska. Novarupta, or some name like that.

I think your thinking about the Tierra Blanca Joven eruption.

But they are still arguing about that.

The argument is that whatever erupted, it had to be in the mid latitudes as to spread globally.

Have not seen that.

The Tambora eruption was spectacular and caused global havoc.

You are 100% correct.

Humans cant do sh@t. And one volcano coughing will prove it.

I got the prelims today on that volcano.

Estimate 400 thousand tons of SO2. Blast topped out at 98 thousand feet. 400 thousand tons of SO2 is about 3% of Pinatubo.

And they are really arguing about the size of it. Some are at a 4 and some at a light 5.

Some are pissed that they cant get accurate SO2 sat images.

If it is settled at a 4, then its a hell of a 4 to send a shock wave round the earth like that. But then again it was a huge Pheartic explosion.
