Yep, he was dong about 100. But if that occurred when he was only doing 40mph, it could have easily been fatal as well.
And what you see in the pic is exactly what happens daily in this country, multiple times per day...Car fails to yield and turns left right into the path of motorcyclist.
True, but in this case the motorcycle was fleeing the police and the left turn car had the green arrow (motorcycle ran the red at 100mph).
They had the green but it didn’t didn’t matter. The car driver thought their vehicle had exploded, they never saw the MC coming. This guy had already blown dozens of lights, it was only a matter of time.
The left turning car could not anticipate someone would be coming at them at 100mph. At that speed a vehicle travels a football field in a bit over 2 seconds.
I should have clarified...Nearly half of MC deaths are caused by people/cars making left turns at intersections, failing to yield to the MC. And most of those fatal incidents occur when the MC is going only about 40mph or so.
These intersection collisions where cars fail to yield, are nearly head on and can be quite severe for the motorcyclist even at 30-40mph.
Yep, happens all the time unfortunately...it was just that particular L.A. high speed chase photo that was a bad example of it. ;-)
I read it as 1.3 times the average rate for Texas overall. So Austin motorcyclists did the dirty work of all of Texas and then some.
