Ivan Reitman, the influential filmmaker and producer behind beloved comedies from “Animal House” to “Ghostbusters,” has died. He was 75.
Reitman died peacefully in his sleep Saturday night at his home in Montecito, Calif., his family told The Associated Press.
“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life,” children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement.

Sudden heart failure?
They haven’t said yet. I was just watching Ghostbusters Afterlife tonight, wasn’t bad, a little woke, but okay. I will say Bill Murray looks old. Ernie Hudson still looked good.
Play the gsme; vaxxed or no vaxxed?
I’m a huge Ghostbusters (original) fan. Afterlife was OK.
GB II and the female one were terrible.
The key to the greatness of the original was the antiauthoritarian themes. Walter Peck and Dean Yaeger were essential to fill out the characters’ rebellious natures.
This never resurfaced after Ernie Hudson delivered the classic, “I love this TOWN” at the end of the original.
Losing Harold Ramis was a big loss as well. Reitman I believe also directed Stripes. He had quite a run in the 80s.
RIP.
He got to see the sequal to Ghostbusters he wanted before he passed on.
Notable work:
Meatballs
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Twins
Kindergarten Cop
Dave
Junior
Space Jam
Animal House

Hank Aaron’s Disease......Dropping dead after a vax or booster when you’re at an advanced enough age that people will say “well, he was no spring chicken”.
I understand that he made the studios a lot of money. But I don't consider his films all that funny or talented.
Nowhere near the comedic genius level of Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, or even Airplane.
Animal House and Ghostbusters - my two favorite films. Today’s producers can’t get close to the comedic genius in them .
Heaven now has another American film genius in that big production room in the sky. RIP, Ivan the Great!!
I’ve read several obituaries and NONE say exactly what his cause of death was beyond saying he died peacefully in his sleep. Even if it was peaceful, there had to be a cause.
Watched it yesterday and I liked it. I will say the casting hit every ethnic demographic it could. The girl playing Phoebe was really good.
There was some wokeness about it, not bad.
The ending was really sentimental. Bill Murray is really looking old though.
