Wasn’t there a plot once where someone was about to cross sides, but was not welcomed and then turned away to commit suicide?

I often think of these things. When I first moved here in 2010, Mr K (not the one on this forum) was such a Democrat. Oh man, it was awful. (I had not known him very long - we had actually only had a few conversations online and I was getting evicted from my place. He was jobless at the time and needed help keeping his house.)

He stayed a Democrat, though his views slowly turned toward the right as the 0bama administration disappointed him time and time again. We did have some terrible throw-downs over my support of the GOP. (Note: I’m not crazy about most of the Republicans these days. But between them and socialist Democrats, the choice should be clear.)

At the start of the 2016 election season, he was still a Democrat but by that time shared a number of my views about economy and “big govt” and so on. But then, quite suddenly, he really got turned off by Hillary and inspired by Donald Trump - motivated in part by seeing the unbridled hatred of the Left on full display like it never had been before.

So, he voted for DT in 2016 and is outraged by the 2020 election fraud. He said in the last election he voted straight GOP. (A couple of members of his family changed their politics too around that time.) (Thank you, Jesus!)

But this rich gal is not very likely to enter my domain anytime soon! (Sure, she turned down her $1 million, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to live in a tumbledown shack in the hills, either.)

I don’t wish her ill but I don’t care about her that much. She will probably stay a liberal until the last pitch.

People on “our side” are very frequently more than hostile towards me because, you know, I’m not perfect like they are. This is very bothersome, especially when you have to watch for personal attacks online and out in the real world, too - by some “conservative” who has a problem with my sunglasses or whatever. (What I like to call the “You-claimed-you-liked-my-blog-and-commented-on-some-of-my-twatter-posts-so-now-I’M-GONNA-MAKE-YOUR-LIFE-A-LIVING-H3LL!!! syndrome.”)

All that taken into consideration, however, I’m not going to turn on the GOP any time soon just because some hypocrites, posers, grifters, and fakes want to project their problems onto me, nor will I blame Donald Trump for my problems. I’m not going to sow division by attacking others in the party just because I have a problem with something someone said - although let me hasten to add that if you spend more than a few minutes of your life carrying on a campaign against me, you CAN expect retaliation. When you least expect it.

Wasn’t there a plot once where someone was about to cross sides...?

The author appears from her personal history to be a "good" and compassionate person, and also a liberal (an active Warren supporter, embarrassed to be associated with Trump, believes G. Floyd, an out-of-control physical monster that had to be contained) was murdered by a racist, etc.).

She also seems, however, to view her troubles as very personal rather than as symbols of the threat to our culture and is therefore unlikely to cross over at the ballot box.
