I wish I had stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night, if so I could help you.
Good post - I’ve been wondering myself
I had to get away from Verizon as they were costing too much and there was no coverage in the mountains.
I found Redpocket, cut my bill from $84.00 a month to $84.00 a year. I chose a limited plan that suited my needs.
My son got an unlimited plan for $180 a year.
You can go month by month also if you want.
They piggyback off the three networks, you choose which network, T-Mobile, Verizon or ATT and they send you a sim card to activate, you can also port your number.
I chose ATT because they had coverage where I needed it in the mountains.
I am a neanderthal when it comes to tech and I was able to do it without much difficulty.
Did call Patriot to ask a few questions. My call was answered promptly by a nice fellow who said they are based out of Dallas; he spoke clear English. Have heard good things; I’m about to fire AT&T.
We use pure talk.
Whatever you do, make sure which system you are currently using is supported.
Page Plus Cellular is pretty good. It is basically Verizon service at a huge discount. No idea of their politics.
I have Patriot Mobile. You can choose either the AT&T or T-Mobile since the large telcos own the cell networks/towers. You can look up their coverage on their individual networks.
So, you are still supporting one of the two big telcos but giving some of your bill payment to a patriotic company.
I called about Patriot when they advertised on RSBN during the 2016 campaign. At that time I felt it didn’t have customer service available for long enough periods of time each day. That may have changed.
We had Verizon for almost 20 years but their customer service became so wretched that we switched to T-Mobile. $70/month flat for unlimited everything, on a seniors plan — half of our Verizon bill.
When we signed up, the spiel was that customer service is all USA and in English. Not true. For sales ... yes. After they hook you, it’s Peggy.
One result of CCP Flu is the decline in customer service overall. It’s an excuse for suck-y CS, and I wonder how long they can dine out on that.
My family switched. Verizon proved difficult to switch “from”, but Patriot helped us through that.
I’ve been wondering as well. I’ve got a really cheap plan with T-Mobile and Patriot would actually cost more. Patriot Mobile doesn’t always get great ratings in connection with customer service. I’m still studying the issue.
