"I just have to get out here and say that daylight savings time is the stupidest thing mankind is ever thought of."

You probably don't like last Sunday's switch to daylight saving time either.

Not having been born into such oppression, I may not have the terms exactly right. They have been unable to initiate me into the cult.

“But what better way then the government to remind you they control every aspect of existence. Even time itself.”

Biggest scam/edict ever perpetrated by the government. It did not add on a second of extra daylight. Where is the empirical data that it conserves energy? The population swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.

Keep DST. Stop the foolishness of changing the clocks twice a year. This is a no-brainer.

Arizona has not participated in DST for as long as I remember.

After two years of lies and exaggerations from the medical industry, I find it healthier — mentally and physlcally — to ignore much of what doctors and “medical experts” think and say ... I respect what they do but they have really damaged their credibility to dispense medical advice.

Just set time a half hour and keep it there forever.

When I get off work on the Friday before, I go ahead and set my clocks ahead or back. That gives me the entire weekend to roll into the time change. If I waited until Sunday I’d have trouble on Monday Morning.

Instead of being free to select the time of day you prefer to use, how do you deal with the government oppression of established time zones across the U.S.?

Prior to 1883, people had the freedom of over 144 local times in North America, but then the “high-tech” transportation companies (the railroads) established four time zones in the continental U.S. to reduce train collisions caused by confusion over the time at which a track would be clear.

Then in 1918, the Interstate Commerce Commission (which regulated railroads) was given control of the five time zones (now including Alaska). Since 1966 the Department of Transportation supervises the boundaries of the time zones as well as daylight saving time.

Counties and cities (such as those near time zone boundaries) can apply to the DOT for a change in which time zone they are in. Only states can apply to opt out of DST completely.

Exactly! We need longer daylight hours in the WINTER!

DST is completely backwards, there is plenty of light in the summer.

That’s not government oppression. It is the changing of the time back-and-forth that is the problem. You can like DST if you want. Nobody is stopping you.

During the half of the year the continental United States has longer daylight than night, Daylight Saving Time moves one daylight hour from the morning to the evening so that people can spend a longer continuous non-working time outdoors, especially when it is also warmer (With the advent of air conditioning, the older claim of saving energy is no longer applicable).

But this benefit of more daylight recreational time after normal work hours does mean a one-hour adjustment around springtime (and another one in the fall that no one seems to complain about). For some, their biological clock has a more difficult effort adjusting to this change. For others, there is little to no problem. Also, for people with evening or night jobs, there is less benefit.

If there are enough people having a time change difficulty within a state, they can politically work to have their elected state representatives request to opt out of DST.

It can make a big difference whether you are working a job or on your own schedules. My partner and I are both over 75. We are naturally what is known as “night people.” However, he is now babysitting his new grandson once a week, 20 miles away from where we live.

He has been forced to change his sleep cycle, but I have not. we miss our 11 pm news reports together, and Saturday Night Live. He has to go to their house the evening before and get up at 6:30 to babysit from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm. On his first babysit after daylight savings started, he forgot to take his vitamins for 2 days, and came back home that evening absolutely exhausted and with an episode of tackycardia. First one in over a year. I on the other hand sleep when I want and get up when I want, and feel fine, and am gradually shifting to later wake up relative time. I so, so look forward to the extra hour of relative time in an urban setting. I am afraid to go shopping after dark. I can see where in a farm setting it might be more disruptive.
