Martin County Sheriff’s Office shares picture on Facebook
A hawk slammed into a deputy in Florida, scratching his face and nearly knocking him over. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Monday in a Facebook post that Corporal Andrew Porcelli was performing security checks when a hawk “bounced off the side of his head.”
“All he knew is that the impact nearly knocked him off his feet,” the post stated.

“Fortunately, security footage captured the feisty feather fighter go in for the dive with a precision T-bone hit to the target. With no warning to dodge the incoming thump, Porcelli sustained a signature hawk scratch to the head. Not to worry though, he will be fine.”

Had one knock the hard hat off my head in the woods one day.
She had a nest not far away.
Are the Hawks “Dating” around this time of year?
It is Springtime. Maybe Hawkeye thought the Deputy was in his territory. Redwing Crows tend to do that too for a few weeks out of the year.
I always thought they nested so high up they wouldn’t be bothered by something on the ground - maybe would attack animals climbing up.
His head resembled a gopher?
BLM stickes again, Birds Lives Matter.
Depending on where they are, hawks can start in February.
She’s protecting something.
Where I live, they had to close down a section of the University due to hawks protecting their nests and attacking any passerby.
Florida bird strikes again!
lol!!!
Democrat birds?!
I don’t think this particular incident could have been prevented no matter how alert this guy was.
Mockingbirds do this all the time. The only way to ‘avoid’ is to know they’re there in the first place - which knowledge usually comes after a few attacks.
They’ve had to do that around buildings in DC for other birds.
Try getting close to a goshawk nest.
BTW, they build up to 5 of them and use just one.
Hahahahaha
Hawks 1, Humans 0.
Go Hawks! I’m a fan.
Where I am, the only hawk nests we become aware of are on ledges of tall buildings. I’m sure they are also in tall trees, but I’ve never heard of an attack like this from a hawk around here.
Which is weird, because I’ve had them attack small birds or take down a rabbit and sit tearing it apart within a few feet or yards of where I was standing.
I had one thump me on the head. He /she had a nest nearby and I was mocking her whistle with my own. I quit doing that.
Guess it wasn’t too much of a karaoke fan.. ;)
