“Multiply” is not a synonym for “increase”. If I multiply something by zero, it only increases if the original was negative. If I multiply something by a negative, again, it can only increase if the original was negative.

That’s not the mathematical definition, that’s a a literary definition, for example: “be fruitful and multiply”.

not me that insists- the dictionary lays it out- twice- in two of the definitions- it doesn’t matter that there are other definitions as well, it doesn’t negate that it means to increase as per the definitions-
