That’s cute!

Thanks for the thread! I am having a hard time grasping that it’s April & 1/4 of the year has flashed by already!

I don’t have to organize to have yarnover. I just have to play in it.

Strange question, but does anyone know where to get large amounts of wool fabric, really really cheap? It doesn’t have to be good quality, it just needs to be cheap and made of wool.

(I’m looking at possible building techniques for when I can finally start construction on my house. Because of changes in the market and my tight budget, the technique I first planned to use won’t work. I found a building technique that looks promising, but it requires LOTS of fabric. I’d rather use wool for the insulative properties, but it’s ok if the wool is ugly, itchy, or full of debris.)

Is the St. Vinnie’s on Park Street still open? They used to have a ‘Dig & Save’ there where you could sort through endless bins and buy clothing for X-amount per pound. Look for wool sweaters to buy and take them apart or just use them rolled up as insulation?

Contact some of the sheep farms in the area and ask what they do with the wool they have that’s not good enough quality to rove and see if they’ll sell you bags of it on the cheap?

Rainbow Fleece Farm is in New Glarus, for one. I’ve been to shearings and classes there.

You could try these people for more contacts; Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative: https://wisbc.com/

My offering this day is a little pair of baby socks: I have modified sock patterns to where I think I have my own. I call them "Diaper Pin Baby Socks" and use a diaper pin as a stitch holder and a measuring tool. I love utilizing leftover yarns to make useful things.

I am finally working on a sewing project, first sewing in about a year or a little longer.

I retired on 3/4 and trying to sort out my new lifestyle, but am making 12 placemats for my daughter-in-law. She got new dishes last year, and is still using some old placemats I made for her for the prior set. The old ones are fading, and not really a good coordinate with the new dishes. My granddaughter (her mom) helped me pick out the new fabrics. I have 9 done, and just need to bind the last 3, plus re-do the binding joins on the first 3, as I am not satisfied with those and have plenty of time.

I thought a fairly limited project would be good to kick off or reignite the sewing bug for me.

After the last 2 years, it seems to work best to be careful in setting expectations/goals, since so many aspects seem to quickly get out of our control...

Thanks for this thread! I love to read about others’ projects and ideas.

So a good friend, who does a lot of neat crochet projects (doesn’t knit) & is very active in entering items in the local county & state fairs, gave me a birthday present yesterday.

It’s a “knooking” set - knitting with a crochet hook & cord. I watched a video & generally see how it’s done. I found a pattern for (what else LOL!) fingerless mittens that you can knook.

I still have to finish those Bobble Sheep pillows before I can tackle anything new so it will be a while before I try this.

The set of hooks/cables I got is called “Love2Knook” & the website is knookdenise.com

I LOVE little knitted baby socks - so cute & sweet. My nephew & his wife are expecting mid-September. A pair of baby socks would make a cute embellishment for a gift. I hate to say it, but a larger knit gift like a knitted lace baby blanket would not be appreciated, so something small but still hand-knitted would be perfect! If I do some socks, I’ll send you a pic! :-)

I'm really glad to have found you all! I have been knitting for 52 years (I tell everyone I'm 49, LOL). I barely sew anymore because knitting is so portable. I'm not a crocheter, but manage if it involves knitting. I also attend a weekly women's bible class.

Yesterday after class, a woman told me about Ravelry and the tranny running the place, about the purging of conservatives, etc. So, I looked it up, June 2019. I know I'm late to this, but I just learned about it. I was working full time and didn't do much free time internet at that time. I never was a big user there, only went for free patterns, and ideas of what others did.

I was going to quit, but asked God to help me with this decision. Every day I read Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. Let me post her April 6th message:

"Bring Me the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Take nothing for granted, not even the rising of the sun. Before Satan tempted eve in the Garden of Eden, thankfulness was as natural as breathing. Satan's temptation involved pointing Eve to the one thing that was forbidden her. The garden was filled with luscious, desirable fruits, but Eve focused on the one fruit she couldn't have rather than being thankful for the many good things freely available. This negative focus darkened her mind, and she succumbed to temptation.

When you focus on what you don't have or on situations that displease you, your mind also becomes darkened. You take for granted life, salvation, sunshine, flowers, and countless other gifts from Me. You look for what is wrong and refuse to enjoy life until that is "fixed."

When you approach Me with thanksgiving, the Light of My Presence pours into you, transforming you through and through. Walk in the Light with Me by practicing the discipline of thanksgiving.

So, instead of feeling like I lost a friend, I'm going to let it go. Perhaps I'll use their site, or not. I haven't gotten that far yet. I have many patterns on my laptop. I'll probably never get them all done. If you used or are using Ravelry, what did you end up doing? I do belong to other sites. Thanks for letting me get it out of my system.

No worries! We ‘vent’ about a lot of things over here, LOL!

I heard about the ‘purge’ at Ravelry and there were a number of discussions about it on FR as a whole, through the years. I’ve never belonged to any Fiber Arts sites, but I like to look for ideas on them.

We started this thread in the off-season to gardening, and the fact that I love to win Blue Ribbons in crochet at my little County Fair. ;) (Big Fish, Tiny Pond!)

I am FAR from an expert, but I love to play with pattern and color, so crochet works well for me.

Welcome!

I design most of my sweaters using Elizabeth Zimmerman's techniques. Her book, "Knitting without tears" is wonderful. Right now, I'm making spiderman blankets for my 4 six-eight year old grandsons, almost done with the 3rd, one more to go. I have written out row-by-row instructions if anyone would like it. (not my picture)

I have decided to finish up, clean out and remove everything I have and get off of ravelry. That may take a couple months, there are some commitments that need to be completed.
