Best Buy is recalling certain air fryers and air fryer ovens.
According to the company, about 635,000 units in the United States, as well as another 137,000 in Canada, are being recalled due to an issue with overheating, which can cause fire and burn hazards.
So far, the company says it has received a total of 104 reports of incidents from U.S. and Canadian consumers regarding air fryers or air fryer ovens starting on fire, burning or melting.
In addition, Best Buy says there are seven reports of minor property damage, as well as two different injuries, which include a report of a child’s leg being injured.
The affected air fryers fall under the Insignia brand, and include the Insignia Digital and Analog Air Fryers, as well as the Insignia Digital Air Fryer Oven, all sold by Best Buy, eBay and Google from November 2018-February 2022.
The products have cooking chamber capacities that range from 3.4-10 quarts, have plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black and stainless-steel finishes.

I'm pretty sure that Best Buy does not manufacture anything. So who is "Insignia" and do they sell appliances under any other name?
Mine was demoted to the basement, I didn’t like it.
Who could foresee a problem with plastic bodied ovens?
Just bought a combo Black and Decker toaster/oven cheapie-$44. I like it so far but there’s an issue underneath. We need space between the rack and the drip pan otherwise it’s not too effective. Take out the pan and there’s a mess. The fanning of the heat is great.
Made in the USA? I doubt it....
The overwhelming number of air fryers are made in China. So, Best Buy best guess would be Chinese.
We just bought a Ninja. Haven’t used it yet.
They get good ratings.
Yes, that’s why we chose it, even though it’s also made in China.
Did a cursory search and couldn’t find any made in the USA.
Well, I think if it were causing fires there’d be something in the reviews about that - I’ve certainly seen it regarding other appliances.
Anything like this will cause burns if it isn’t handled cautiously - it gets HOT.
(I was afraid of our electronic pressure cooker, remembering all the stories about the old stove-top ones. But it’s been wonderful.)
All an air fryer is is a fancy convection/fan toaster. We have one that in the bake or grill modes, the fan comes on. I make some killer shake and bake chicken and also pork chops in it. Better than a frying pan.
I love French fries. I refuse to buy an air fryer, I would end up eating them twice a day.
“Insignia” is the Best Buy house brand for TVs and many other items.
Then just eat them once a day! They make excellent fries! I tell you what! ;^)
The local IHOP has the best fries I have found among the local restaurants.
Love the Ninja Foodie
My brother likes onion rings, and he says the air fryer does the Nathan ones very well.
