The original video for this song was fun and innocent.

However, when I saw CL in concert in2018, she used the song in a video supporting abortion and Planned parenthood.

I will never have anything to do with her again after that.

(((BTW, she was opening for Rod Stewart, who made her look like a rank amateur)))

I knew a girl back in the 90s who was musically talented, played multiple instruments and was a great singer. She had even taken a couple of opera classes in college. I asked her opinion of the current female singers and the first name she mentioned was Cyndi Lauper. She thought Lauper was head and shoulders above the rest of the pop/rock singers.

A few years later the wife got free tickets to see Lauper who was on a r&b tour with a backing band of old Memphis blues musicians. The only reason I went is because I remembered my friend raving about her. I’ve got to say my friend was right, Lauper killed it in concert.

That’s an insult to Belinda and the Go’ Gos.

The cover song that launched a career. I bet the original group that recorded the song was pretty jealous, unless they got good royalties.

This from a comment on YouTube:

“For those that don’t know, Terry Hall had a fling with Jane Wiedlin from The Go Go’s when they were on tour together. He wrote this song about them and their secret relationship (Terry had a girlfriend back then), then sent the lyrics to Jane, who worked on the music. That’s why both bands recorded it, and came out only a few months apart. Both songs were hits on opposite sides of the Atlantic. (Go Go’s hit #20 in US, #3 in Canada, and FBT ‘s version peaked at #7 in UK). Gotta love that a story like this was told by both sides, albeit in different styles”

Hardly. Terry Hall (Funboy 3 lead singer) wrote the lyrics, and he was good friends with Jane Wiedlin, the guitarist for the Go-Go's. She called their version "great". The FunBoy 3 version outcharted the Go-Go's version in the UK.

I’m a boys varsity lacrosse head coach at a Catholic HS.

I was at a girls MS game there to watch my daughter, and took over scoreboard and loudspeaker duty because no parents volunteered.

When my daughter got her hat trick, I played this song and 3 woke moms started screaming at me that it was sexist. The song played on….
