“I guess I’m in the minority....I hated that movie.”
There were two very good moments in that movie. One was when Maverick is trying to impress the girl and other pilots with his mig story, he says “there I was…” Goose elbows him, interrupts him saying “We, Mav. There WE were.”
“Oh sorry Goose, there WE were…” Goose smiles.
The other is after the badly thought out tower fly-by, the both of them are outside the captain’s office sweating bullets, Goose says, “what’s the name of that trucking company? Truck driving might be a good career choice”
Cruise is good in both of those scenes. He’s straight man to Edwards’ comedy.
Cruise is good only as a team member btw.
But no it is not a great movie and not a classic.
Thanks for providing a balanced feminine view.
My basic rule of thumb is to give any movie the benefit of the doubt, provided it stars John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart.
Not much for giving my hard earned money to scientologists.
Also having worked in the naval aviation maintenance field for almost 31 years....well let’s just say hollywood knows how to embellish a story to make it entertaining.
In that time I met my share of pilots and one thing that movie did do is give the pilots massive egos......THAT was accurate.
