My Letter to Senator Cornyn
Self | June 9, 2022 | Ancesthntr

Posted on 06/09/2022 1:23:51 PM PDT by Ancesthntr

Senator Cornyn, I have voted for you every time you have faced election since coming to Texas 21 years ago. However, now you are negotiating away my rights and those of my family and fellow citizens. The very idea (let alone the practical application) of a "Red Flag" law is in violation of the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th Amendments - and giving tax dollars to the states to do that dirty deed would be just as gross of a violation of those rights by operation of the 14th Amendment. Senator Cornyn, you KNOW this - you were on the Texas Supreme Court and the Texas Attorney General for crying out loud!!! Don't claim otherwise, because that would be ridiculous. Yet, there you are, negotiating away that which you swore to "preserve, protect and defend." SHAME!!!!!!

I am sick and tired of a "compromise" consisting of giving the anti-gun Democrats just a little bit less than the outrageous demands that they come up with regarding firearms in every single session. How about making THEM give up something - starting with repealing the "sporting use" clause of the 1968 Gun Control Act? How about repealing Sections 922 (o) and 922(r)? How about removing suppressors and short-barreled long guns from the NFA list? REAL compromise means that BOTH sides give up something, not one side constantly losing for decades while the other side settles for a slower accomplishment of all of its goals. It is time for you (and your colleagues, whom you lead and direct) to grow a backbone, Senator.

Senator Cornyn, you had BETTER scuttle all negotiations with the Democrats regarding firearms, including and especially on the "Red Flag" provisions. All that they seek is to disarm law-abiding Americans who have done exactly nothing wrong. We all mourn when tragic incidents occur, but the content of their proposed legislation - all of it - can NEVER solve the problem while simultaneously preserving the rights of the citizenry - rights about which you are VERY well aware and which you swore an oath to protect - ALWAYS, not just when it is politically expedient. If you cannot do this simple thing, to uphold our rights and your oath of office, then I will not only never vote for you again, I will actively work to unseat you in your next primary. DO YOUR JOB!!! No more compromise of the rights of non-criminals, of the people whom you claim to represent. Enough is enough! What's next Senator, Red Flag laws for automobiles with more than 300 horsepower because a drunk driver killed someone?

Here is a letter that I sent to Senator Cornyn regarding the negotiations with the Democrats regarding gun legislation, and particularly WRT the "Red Flag" proposal. Feel free to copy and paste all you want - but PLEASE communicate with YOUR Senators. We simply cannot sit back and do nothing while the last vestiges of our rights are shredded before our eyes.

Good letter. Here’s hoping that it makes a difference in Cornyn’s actions.

“Good letter. Here’s hoping that it makes a difference in Cornyn’s actions.”

Thanks, appreciated. Maybe if 10,000 or 100,000 other people called and/or submitted similar thoughts, it would have that effect. Otherwise, I’m not holding my breath - he is a RINO extraordinaire, dyed-in-the-wool conservative for about a year before elections, and Dem-lite the other 5 years.

You can bet your bottom dollar (or last 30 round magazine) that John “Wayne” Cornyn will chuckle while he wads up your letter into a tiny ball and slams it into the circular file. He doesn’t care. Not one little bit.

I voted for Cornyn when he fist ran for the Senate. I thought that he “was just like the rest of us Texans”. By the time his first re-election came around, I already knew that he was no better than any other self serving RINO and I voted for his Primary opponent. He survived the Primary challenge and I held my nose to vote him in for a second term.

By 2020, I had seen enough and not only did I vote for his Primary opponent, I also refused to hold my nose yet again. I will be actively working to see him forced into retirement, IF we ever have another election again. Thus far, I have my doubts.

What is needed is a Red Flag law for politicians.

If a politician tells a dangerous falsehood, refuses to tell the truth, spends public dollars recklessly they can be picked up and held for questioning.

Maybe have their right to vote on legislation withheld until they can prove sanity.

There's absolutely *no* need for "red flag" laws.Every state has civil commitment laws on the books allowing cops *and* physicians to have people admitted to a psychiatric facility, against their will,if they think a person is a threat to himself *or* others.

If you're too unstable to have a gun you're too unstable to be free to walk the streets.

And you’ll get the same canned BS reply that I did in a day or two. Screw him.

Thank you for contacting me regarding federal firearms laws. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.

On May 24, 2022, a gunman maliciously took the lives of 21 innocent people, including 19 children at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. My heart goes out to the loved ones of those who lost their lives as they grieve such a cruel tragedy. This is an incredibly difficult time for the Uvalde community, Texas, and our Nation. My office is coordinating with federal, state, and local officials to assist the people of Uvalde as they navigate the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.

As your Senator, I am committed to focusing on the root causes of mass violence, fully enforcing current law, and addressing improvements to mental health care in America. I will continue to push for effective solutions that protect communities and preserve citizens’ Second Amendment rights. As a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, I believe it is essential to safeguard law-abiding citizens’ constitutional right to own and use firearms for lawful purposes. Restricting this right runs counter to the intent of our Founding Fathers, who expressly guaranteed that citizens would retain the right to keep and bear arms.

It is encouraging that the Supreme Court has upheld the will of our Founders and re-affirmed the ideals upon which our country was established. The Supreme Court’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) affirmed that Americans’ constitutional rights remain secure from federal government intrusion. I was proud to sign an amicus brief to the Supreme Court supporting the fundamental right of American citizens to keep and bear arms. This landmark ruling continues to have implications far beyond the District of Columbia. In the 2010 McDonald v. City of Chicago decision, the Supreme Court struck down the arbitrary gun ban in Chicago-thereby affirming that the Second Amendment protects Americans’ fundamental rights against state and local encroachment.

As a former Texas Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General, I have firsthand knowledge of crime-fighting policies that work, and I believe citizens’ Second Amendment rights should not be restricted because of the actions of criminals. Rather, we must focus our attention on the source of violent crime: criminals who use firearms to harm innocent Americans. I believe strictly enforcing the law-and imposing tougher sentences on career criminals and violent offenders who use firearms-will reduce violence more effectively than gun or equipment bans, which primarily serve to take firearms away from law-abiding citizens.

Furthermore, I believe Americans with concealed handgun licenses should not sacrifice their safety and peace of mind when traveling between states. That is why I was proud to introduce the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2019 (S.69; 116th Congress). This bill would have allowed qualified individuals to carry a concealed handgun into, or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows its residents to carry concealed firearms. While this bill did not pass last Congress, I look forward to working with my colleagues on furthering protection of Americans’ Second Amendment rights during the 117th Congress.

As your Senator, I will continue to champion the Second Amendment and work to provide resources for individuals with mental health issues to help ensure that our communities our safe and our Constitutional rights are not infringed.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate, and will continue working with my colleagues to protect our Second Amendment rights. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN

Cornyn must be a very persuasive speaker to get criminals to give up their guns.

I think your best bet is to talk to a staffer (have some patience, I do finally get a live person) and compare the value and virtue of your job to their sham job. Have the staffer go to bed that night thinking at what a complete POS their boss is and how their staff job is nothing about representing the state, but enabling John Cornyn to be invited to the next DC cocktail party. John Cornyn left Texas a long time and now is nothing more than a DC swamp turd.

Great letter.

Here’s my question to you and everyone else on here that is from Texas.

The next time Cronyn runs, it’s doubtful that he’ll have a challenger, even though he should. Very good chance he’ll be the Republican candidate. And you’ll be in a position to vote for the Republican or the Democrat.

So, you have two choices…don’t cast a vote for Cornyn….vote for Cornyn because you can’t dare to see the Democrat win….which do you choose?

Are you going to allow this POS to continue to go back, again and again, so he can continue to stab you and all of us in the back.

My letter to cornyn was a bit more succinct. I told him he could stuff all his civilian disarmament 'compromise' right up his ass, and that the only useful thing he could do about guns is to move to repeal § 922o

Cornyn is a swamp creature and needs to be unelected. I’ve held my nose and voted for me for the last time. He is a POS and I will NEVER vote for him again.

FYI, I have written him and told him what I think about him.
