"Suicide in its purest form": in Belarus, security forces opposed the war with Ukraine, Lukashenko is preparing for a riot

The unrecognized President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko may be preparing for a revolt by his military after they expressed disagreement with Russia's war against Ukraine. Local commandos called his decision on the possible dispatch of troops "suicide in its purest form."

Senior officers of the fifth brigade of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus expressed this opinion in an open letter to the Belarusian leader, who is a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by Newsweek.

"By entering the war against Ukraine, Belarus will be expelled from the community of civilized states and will become an international outcast for many years," the military wrote.

As you know, the authorities of the republic allowed Russia to deploy its troops and conduct large-scale military exercises in the country from the very beginning of the war at the end of February. And in May, Belarus has already started large-scale exercises of its armed forces to test the combat readiness of the army.

However, some Belarusian servicemen condemned the war and in a letter to Lukashenka stated that Russia's occupation of the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, which is a friend of their state, as well as its attempt to drag the country into a completely unprovoked war "can only be considered as the destruction of the sovereignty of Belarus itself."

"Now the officers of the fifth special purpose brigade state a gross violation by the highest political leadership of Russia of paragraph one of the Constitution of Belarus. According to it, the republic retains supremacy and full authority over its own territory. She also enjoys independence in domestic and foreign policy," the military reminded Lukashenko.

Ordinary residents of Belarus also do not support the war against Ukraine. According to the survey, the majority of the country's citizens oppose the participation of their army in hostilities on the side of the Russian Federation – more than 85%. While 8.2% of respondents supported the entry of the republic into the war.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, earlier the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that he would continue to support the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine, since they are a union state and have a single army. He justified the aggression of the Russian Federation towards a neighboring country by putting up a barrier against "bullying Russians and a Russian person."

Maybe this is part of why Lukashenko is somewhat reticent to join the fray. And, of course, this could simply be propaganda.

Wonder if NATO is planning a Ukrainian attack on Belarus. I mean why not, since they are just playing RISK.

The Belarussian people don’t want to be involved in this war. We have quite a few Belarussians in Poland - yes nearly all of them ran from the country as they can’t stand their dictator Lukashenko.

all of them oppose the war.

The military in Belarus is also incredibly weak - Lukashenko did that to prevent any coups. He has a group of bully militia’s to prevent coups, but the military itself is basically a weakly armed battalion.

Even if they WANTED to, they couldn’t invade Ukraine.

I find it amusing that the article refers to Lukashenko as “self-proclaimed” and “unrecognized” when he is the de facto President of Belarus, even if he does come across as a bit unhinged at times.

(Of course, media and political concerns about contested elections are highly selective; they have no issue talking about vote fraud in Belarussian elections, but talking about the same in America’s elections are beyond the pale...)

Yes, let's all just ignore the purport of this article and/or side-step the question (of Belarus instability) entirely and instead waste time focusing on purely hypothetical speculations, shall we?

Regards,

Early in this war it appeared the people of Belarus really didn’t want Russia attacking from their territory. It was reported that Belarusian railway workers were sabotaging the Russians whenever they could. That may be one reason Putin pulled out of the Kiev attack and moved his forces out of Belarus and to the east.

PREDICTION: After letting Russia bring troops in to attack Ukraine, they’ll cry for help when Putin declares Belarus part of Russia. Hell, the troops are already there - now’s the time! And then the USA will send Belarus $100 billion (which gets split between the deepstate and Putin).

Lukashenko may not be popular but he’s being realistic, Belarus needs cheap energy from Russia to stay afloat or they will become another economic basket case like Ukraine. Seeing as to how the Western democracies are broke and heavily in debt themselves, how much welfare do these countries expect to receive by kissing up to NATO?

It would be in the best interest of all these ex-Soviet block countries bordering Russia to retain a neutral stance towards Russia instead of having a hostile relationship with them. Europe itself is committing economic suicide sanctioning Russian energy. Really they are just a bunch of idiots over there.

Putin already lost Finland to NATO and now could lose Belarus to a revolt. Unintended consequences. Too bad.
