At the NATO summit in Madrid, Finland was invited to join the alliance. What does this mean for Finland?
If Russian President Vladimir Putin breaches the 830-mile Finnish border, the United States will rise to Helsinki's defense and fight Russia on Finland's side.
What does Finland's membership in NATO mean for America?
If Putin makes a military move into Finland, the U.S. will go to war against the world's largest nation with an arsenal of between 4,500 and 6,000 battlefield and strategic nuclear weapons.
No Cold War president would have dreamed of making such a commitment – to risk the survival of our nation to defend territory of a country thousands of miles away that has never been a U.S. vital interest.
To go to war with the Soviet Union over the preservation of Finnish territory would have been seen as madness during the Cold War.
Recall: Harry Truman refused to use force to break Josef Stalin's blockade of Berlin. Dwight Eisenhower refused to send U.S. troops to save the Hungarian freedom fighters being run down by Soviet tanks in Budapest in 1956…

Europe has armies. Europe has money. Let Europe defend Finland. It’s not America’s problem.
I don’t know why some Freepers dislike Pat Buchanan as they do. His knowledge and his 50 years of real world experience puts him at the top of the class when it comes to insightful and accurate commentary.

Like John Bolton?
What’s the point? Biden already handed Ukraine over to Russia.
The stronger the US posture is then the less likely the scumbag Russians will attack. Cowards never attack someone who is stronger than they are.
Uff Da!
Are US {insert any country here} hostilities inevitable ?
Yes
Uff da! Vut du ve du now?
In a game of risk Finland is not the place I would put armies. These guys are amateur
Yes. Lol
Simo (“white death”) Hayha
True. But, I don’t think the world sees the US as strong rn.
If another country ever wanted to attack the US.. we have the weakest government, with a senile leader, and a divided country
Maybe the US needs such chastisement to recover its senses. But also, just maybe if the US had dealt with the Soviets before they became an advancing nuclear power, then there would have been no cold war, with its proxy wars most every decade since.
Or if the West had not underwent social revolution after WW2, and later mishandled the opportunity the demise of the Soviet empire provided (after which it wanted to join NATO) to reform corrupt Russia, and treated Russia as if it would not once again be a threat to the West and world - which it very much is - and confederate with China, and then the present expansions of Putin would not have taken place.
Pat can’t say that! That’s all Putin stoogism. This is the best thing Pat has written in a while. He speaks truth to the power of the US and EU globalists, the neocons, Biden/Obama/Soros American regime, defense industry and 90% of DC.
“Like John Bolton?” If you know Bolton and make that comment, you have zero knowledge of Pat’s history. You might want to check him out before you make any further asinine statements like that.
I agree. The problem is, at this point we need a strong steady hand leading the nation and we have a stumbling, bumbling old fool. A man, who even before his mental & physical deterioration, was a congenital liar and really not much smarter than the village idiot in a city the size of New York.
The Deep State will do anything to cover for Biden’s failing presidency and multicultural socialism. So yes, anything is possible.
