The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently confirmed the Ohio Department of Health reported a human infection with a novel influenza A virus.

On August 26, 2022, the CDC stated this is the second patient infected with an H1N2v virus reported in the USA in 2022.

And is the fifth human infection with variant influenza A viruses this year, including three H3N2v (West Virginia) and two H1N2v (Ohio, Oregon) viruses.

According to the CDC, there are different swine influenza virus subtypes and strains, some of which infect other animals but rarely humans.

The Ohio patient is a minor, was not hospitalized, and has recovered from their illness.

An investigation by Ohio officials found that the patient had attended an agricultural fair on the day of their illness onset.

The additional investigation did not identify respiratory illness in any of the patient's household contacts.

And no person-to-person transmission of A(H1N2)v virus associated with this patient has been identified.

The CDC says, 'Early identification and investigation of human infections with novel influenza A viruses are critical so that the risk of infection can be understood, and appropriate public health measures can be taken.'

Most human infections with variant influenza viruses occur following close proximity to swine at a farm or social event.

The first swine influenza virus was classified in pigs in 1918.

As of August 28, 2022, the U.S. FDA has not approved a preventive vaccine targeted against swine flu, nor is the annual flu shot clinically effective against an H1N2v virus.

I posted the other day about the high prices at the Ky State fair we went to 2 days ago.

What I didn’t mention is an official warned the grand boys not to pet the pigs in cages as swine flu was a remote possibility.

Now I know what he was talking about.

If that was the case; that those pigs on display at the State Fair may have the Pig Flu Virus, then those animals should have been kept further away from people. If there was no room to keep the pigs further away, then by all means, tell people the possible danger. I know most state fair livestock displays are usually very jam pack crowded. I used to go to the one in Detroit, Mi with my own Dad.
