The 20-month-old tot wasn’t the only one impacted by the extreme weather, which meteorological services have described as the worst hail storm in two decades. Another 50 people were reportedly injured by the falling ice with some suffering broken bones, the Independent reported. Meanwhile, one woman remains in the hospital while the local primary care center treated 28 patients for cuts and bruises.
All told, firefighters reportedly fielded more than 40 calls for both “assistance to the injured,” as well as damage to buildings, wiring and other property.
In addition, the humongous hail also reportedly struck branches off trees, smashed bocce-ball-sized holes in car windshields and pounded public squares. In one apocalyptic clip circulating on local media, the ice orbs can be seen creating giant splashes in a pool like frozen depth charges.
The dangerous ice capades may not be over yet, either. According to Murcia Today, several areas of Catalonia remain on high alert for “violent weather,” including “the possibility of hailstones over 2 centimetres, winds of more than 25 metres per second [55 mph], and tornadoes.” Meanwhile, Barcelona is currently on “orange alert,” or major risk, for severe rainfall.

Sad.
Sad.
I’ve always wondered how many people on the Oregon trail etc were caught in such hail out on the open prairie. Coronado’s expedition out of New Mexico for the cities of gold was caught in a terrible hailstorm in Blanco Canyon, near today’s Lubbock Tx. Smashed a lot of their equipment, pottery, etc. Scattered their animals, etc.
How terrible.
How will the rats spin this? Another law will be needed. Apparently every single mishap now mandates Federal intrusion.
I'd rather be caught in hail than a pyroclastic flow. Nature BIG. Humans, small.
They'll send in the Doom Goblin.
I lived most of my life in Amarillo. Not uncommon to have hail from golf ball to grapefruit size.
One storm went down I 40 west of Amarillo for about 5 miles. Softball sized hail, high winds. Broke every car window and overturned every 18 wheeler along that stretch (near Bushland).
My friend and I worked on weekends (one of my many part time jobs) re-roofing houses every summer after hail storms. We would get a couple of helpers and we could do a roof in a weekend.
A preview of things to come?
Global warming and genderphobia.
And a smidge of racism. Fekkin white hail.
That's what they think. Wasn't COVID supposed to be similar?
Seriously, prayers to the young girl family. It is a sad event.
Tragic. These types of storms can pop up out of nowhere.
In Fort Worth, we had an apocalyptic hail storm in early May 1996 during an annual outdoor park festival, Mayfest. The injuries were massive and damage to vehicles ran into the 100’s of millions.
10 inch hail is maybe just a little unusual, maybe?
Well, I’ve never been to Spain...................
Is “humongous” a real word?
OUCH! Poor child!
Or I could have read the article.
Duh.....
Yes, bit not sure of the spelling there.
