Glorious!
Aman unrepentant Anglophile from almost purely United Kingdom stock with a little Huguenot French throne in and an unrepentant southerner as well and I salute this lady
She acquitted her self very well with aplomb
God save the King
She earned her rest in God’s peace.
She unwaveringly lived up to her vows before God and her country for 70 years, how many of us can say the same?
I can not think of greater dedication in my lifetime…and her dedication was to her God, His Christ and the people within her realm. Well done, she was a good and faithful servant.
I love this hymn.
Hey, well most of my family was from Britain, except Huguenot too, that side of the family landed in Charlestown, SC.
Today there was a double rainbow over London coinciding with the queen’s death, flag at half staff:

(God’s rainbow, the real one, has seven colors, not the six of the pride flag.)
It is based on a poem by William Blake, and was adapted to music by Sir Hubert Parry. The most well-known arrangement/orchestration is by Edward Elgar.
Lyrics:
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the Holy Lamb of God
On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! Oh Clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England’s green and pleasant land!
Out of curiosity I am watching the BBC play out her coronation in 1953.
Quite elaborate.
The celebration of great ideals calls for great ceremony.
“Huguenot too, that side of the family landed in Charlestown, SC.”
My own Huguenot line settled in Manakin Town, Virginia, circa 1700. One of them being in a four man business partnership with some guy named Thomas Jefferson, grandfather of the other one.
The majority of my paternal side is from Britain, Scotland and Ireland so I’ll toast the Queen’s memory out of ancient kinship.
God rest the Queen’s soul.
