I saw plenty of them shaking the King’s hand when he returned to London today.

Colonies i spoke of

However you must be oblivious to Braveheart, the movie embellished, but Scotland did not willingly join them.

I’ll give you that, but my whole point is how so many want to look at her as if she was perfect, yet I never see all those fawning over her leaving comments o posts about true saints in religious posts

Hell, when Billy Graham died I think there was a 10 minute discussion on Fox and maybe 3 posts on FR that 90% of those commenting on the posts about the Queen never discussed it

Sure dies seem to be a disconnect

I am not trying to explain my hate over he at her death, I defend my stance against those who claim things that are untrue.

If I say the sky is red, and you claim it is green, I will come back with proof you are wrong.

Does that mean I am trying to explain my hate?

Tell that to India and Pakistan. It took them 90 years to gain Independence.

After a few wars, they finally got freedom because WWII weakened England so much they knew they could not stop another try. Yet, because of their military and financial weakness after the war, they knew India would have kicked their ass. So they acquiesced. Thus both India and Pakistan gained Independence.

See ‘Crown Estate’. Assets run by Parliament. George III gave up the monarchy’s control.

No, not a good response, because they just gave up control but they still own the assets

Like a President in office, they put their assets under the control of a trust, yet they still own the assets.

Which is worse actually, because now the ones making policy knows what to invest in. Under the agreement of giving up control of the government the Monarchy no longer makes governmental decisions.

At least with the monarchy in control there is a chance they will not be doing insider trading, since they no longer make policy,

But with the help of politicians, they can be assured the Monarchy keeps on making a killing while being assured they will in turn help the right political buddies stay in power.

Either way is risky, but I would have preferred the Royal family stay in control of the assets and thus the government would then de assured to watch them closer, now the ones doing the watching are doing the trading

I know the history well. Oliver Cromwell is a long-reviled figure in Irish history particularly due to his reported mercilessness upon the city of Drogheda when they refused to surrender.

There must have been divine retribution upon the Puritans for the act of regicide, because they were driven out of every other European country they fled to and ended up dying out in the USA. Remember what David did to the unnamed Amalekite who thought he was going to be rewarded for his claim of killing Saul (2 Samuel 1:1-16).

That would the myth that has twisted the historical record more than most any other one in our history. It had an echo during LBJ’s reign that arguably has caused the most damage.

Better go back and read your history. Britton outlawed slavery before we did. The US didn’t outlaw slavery until 1865. Britain outlawed it in 1833.

I am not an anglophile.

But if (I am on the fence about it) maintaing the British Royal family is or has been an error, it is not the fault of the rouals, any of them, as keeping the royals has always been a choice OF THE PEOPLE OF BRITAIN, not the royals.

For what ever reasons the people of Britain have wanted to keep the royals, long after the royals lost all political power.

The rant is misguided as to who is “at fault” (if there is any).

As for Henry the VIIIth:

Had Henry not left Catholicism, history indicates the English conributions to the Reformation would have had a different, and possible even more rocky history, as it is from Henry the world got the first authorized English language version of the Bible (the Great Bible - 1539 [based largely on Tyndale’s Bible]. Though Henry’s son had a brief reign and was followed by Mary Queen of Scots, who reestablished Caholicism as the state church, she was followed by Elizabeth I (daughter of Herny the VIII), and Elizabeth reestablished the Anglican Church as the state church and made some directions in greater religious tolerance. Yes, in his own way, Henry VIII made some contribution to the development of the values that later on became the under pinnings of western civilizaztion.

Queen Elizabeth II was a devout Christian. In that, as in much else, she set a good example.

“People who think like you do - who don’t recognize the importance of ideals and values and their enshrinement in traditions - are one of the reasons our own country is going to hell.”

I am going to give to you a short history lesson and I promise to make it as short as possible:

How much haughtiness and arrogance is required for a nation of people to put the word, “Great” in their name?

Most of the nations of the world hate the U.S.A. and Great Bitchin’. I’ll try to explain why that is:

01. ) We had to run them out of our country TWICE!

02. ) Then, if that wasn’t enough, we had to bail them out TWICE!

03. ) Then we had to bail them out of the Falklands.

There have been diplomatic and political blunders throughout history but THE biggest blunder of all time is when we STILL agreed to be chummy with them.

04. ) They have been run out of almost every country in Africa.

05. ) They have been run out of China.

06. ) They have been run out of the Middle East thanks to T. E. Lawrence and his blunder/s in Iraq.

07. ) They have been run out of India.

08. ) They have been run out of most countries in Southeast Asia.

They are STILL trying to tell us how to run our country!

Among other things. they are the reasons why most of the rest of the world hate Great Bitchin’ and because we are so chummy with them that is why they hate us.

If we were to cut all ties with Great Bitchin’ and while it would take some time, the rest of the world would soften their hatred of us and eventually come to like us.

Ideals, values, and traditions are in the heart, not in Great Bitchin’.

Are you aware that they still refer to us as ‘defiant colonists,’ and still look down their noses at us?

I do not think that you have ever traveled to Europe. If you had then you would have adopted my attitude, also. I can assure you that they are THE most haughty, arrogant peoples on the planet.

As an aside which is totally unrelated to all of the above, every time I hear some subject of Great Bitchin’ say, “Across the pond,” I would like to wring his neck. ;-)

If all or some of the above does not sway you then you may be delusional or simply do not want to wake up to the truth.
