Currently, it is treated as a behavioral disease, but doctors are now suggesting that it be considered a brain-development disorder such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (also known as ADHD), autism and Asperger’s syndrome.
The study, which was published on Science.org, was conducted by doctors from Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.
Researchers looked at one area of the brain, the arcuate nucleus, which has several different types of neurons, including ones that control metabolism, according to ScienceDirect.
During early childhood, this part of the brain undergoes changes. The brain is particularly sensitive to programming during this time, and it will affect how body weight can be regulated later in life.

Dumbing down more stupid behavior.
I seriously doubt ADD is a genuine disease of any kind, nor obesity or alcoholism.
I do think much of obesity is genetic, and thus we should be a bit compassionate about fat people. It’s not as simple as “eats too much” or “just don’t eat”. Many people seem to get naturally fat, and have terrible time losing weight. Because the opposite also exists (I was weight-deprived until I got elder). There are people who seem to sit on the fence, and either stay stable, or can turn on a dime their weight status (a cousin is another example).
Oh boy…do I get reparations???…lol
There is an easy way to figure out what percent is genetic and what percent is environmental.
Look at the percentage of obese people during the Great Depression of nearly a hundred years ago.
The genetics were the same.
Obese people were very hard to find.
There's also suspicions that artificial ingredients in food alter the body's ability to process food, leading to obesity. It wasn't just television, computers, and a "sedentary lifestyle" that led to weight gain; something changed in the food.

From the article at the link: "The supposedly “safe” food ingredient [proponiate] is a potential endocrine disruptor."
Artificial ingredients are also what's likely lowering levels of testosterone in men.
Really?
There are many peoples who tend to be skinny as all get out, and those who tend to be fatty.
Certain Polynesian types, vs certain African tribes.
It’s an adaption.
What is artificial? Are people eating things that don’t already exist in nature? Not big on complaints about “processed”. Which BTW just mashing up a potatoe is “processed”. It means nothing more than changing the original state of the food. Cooking is “processing”.
There may be some chemicals used more now than originally were in most foods, and they may affect us some.
But the fact remains, some of us have very hard times losing weight, and some of us have very hard time gaining weight. I was skinny (as was most of my dad’s family…can’t that be genetic?), and as a young adult weighed about 125 lbs. I worked out trying to gain muscle and even tried eating both “good” and “bad” fatty foods afterwards. I could gain about 5lbs but when I stopped concentrating on it I’d lose that.
but But BUT they told us for years it’s genetic...
Look at pictures of people in American big cities in the 1950s and earlier.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
;-)
“Artificial ingredients are also what’s likely lowering levels of testosterone in men.”
Xenoestrogens.
Big Pharma trying to create even MORE customers.
How about pederasty or gender dysphoria? Or sexual addiction?
NO. We’re not paying for slobs who lay around and eat chips and never exercise.
Foods packaged with corn syrup & sodium.
I’m so glad I’m no longer a nurse(after being fired for not taking the vaccines at age 64).
Health care and medicine in America is embarrassing. Sad watching the decline. Oh well.
You’re fat AND stupid!
