An elk hunter got more than he bargained for last Saturday, October 9 when a mature mountain lion approached and charged him. The incident occurred during an early-season rifle hunt in southeast Idaho. In a remarkable video captured by the hunter on his cell phone and later shared by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), John C. Erickson yells "get back" at the advancing mountain lion before firing multiple rounds from his .40 caliber Glock 27. His bullets appear to hit just inches above the predator's head and back.

Pretty lucky hunter, ordinarily I'd think bullets miss inches above a predator's head, as opposed to hit it.
Put the damn phone down and put both hands on your weapon you clown. People will risk their life for Instagram and Facebook likes.
When I’m out in the back country I wear a go-pro so I can have both hands on my 10mm :-)

You can't hold a rifle and a camera at the same time. And the mountain lion is certainly not going to let you do a selfie with him. This has to be captured on camera. Priority.

Moron should have worn a GoPro if he wanted video so badly. For folks too cheap to get a GoPro, you can get a head mount for your spare cellphone.

It was worth it though, to protect his hunt. People don’t realize how delicious Elk is. Joe Rogan swears by it. It is arguably the best tasting meat out there. I made Elk chili a while back, and ate the entire Crock Pot of it over 3 days.
If you ever find yourself in that situation and you are foolishly unarmed because you listened to Rats or RINOs when it comes to 2nd amendment unconstitutional infringement,
1. Drop everything you have especially if it contains food. Very similar to dealing with the ferals in any democrap run city, drop it all.
2. Always face the mountain lion and NEVER run. If you have on a jacket, take it off and open it, use it to make yourself look bigger and be LOUD vocally.
3. If possible pick up rocks but do it fast, never crouch down if you can help it. Throw rocks at the feral.
4. If it still follows you, as a LAST RESORT...This is very VERY VERY important..As a LAST resort play Taylor Swift “music”. The sonic torture will be immense, your brain could explode from the torture, but you will be free of the creature at last guaranteed.

That was my first thought. But maybe he thought he could keep the cat in his vision easier and could get quicker shots off if he had to. If he’s elk hunting, he probably has a bolt-action .338 Win Mag, or least a bolt-action .30-06.
Sounds to me like he missed...
