I am not sure a 17 year old male teenager should be called a child. I am not defending the woman but child does not seem to be the right word.

its a societal law... once upon a time kids were getting married in their early teens. and I may get heat for this, but I do not think it is as bad in a case like this than if the genders were switched.
Why do you think the stud3nt was male? The excerpt went out of its way to avoid identifying the student’s sex.
