But he’s not wrong about the digital thermometers. Most of them are crap. I finally found one which worked:

Vicks ComfortFlex Digital Thermometer

I now keep 2032 batteries in my medicine cabinet next to my vape pen kit. Just measure your temperature while healthy so that you have a baseline average (it rarely gives a 98.6 reading, typically measuring an average of 1-2 deg F low...the most accurate of the many I tried in this price range).

I love digital thermometers. I never cook without mine. Since I've been using it, I have yet to screw up a beef roast, chicken or pork loin.   =;^p

On a related note, I have the same issues with digital cooking thermometers. They are so all over the place with their readings that they are essentially useless.

I've had to go back to the old-fashioned but reliable cooking thermometers.
