11/19/2202 | Self.

Posted on 11/19/2022 4:47:11 AM PST by mad_as_he$$

Looking for advice on a shareware program for video editing. Small project.

TOPICS: Arts/Photography
KEYWORDS: vdieoeditor; video; videoeditor
Have a small video editing project that I have been asked to do. Don't want to spend a bunch on time learning features I won't need. Mostly need to trim time and splice.

The Windows photo app has a video editor built in. If you’re looking at a video there’s an edit button. You can add background audio/music, trim and sequence video clips and there are even some special effects. I had snow blow through one of mine scenes.

If you have Windows 10, you might already have Movie Maker or Video Maker. I’ve not yet used either one, but I’ve used FilmForth. It’s easy to do.

Shotcut is what I learned on. There will be a learning curve on any video editing software but Shotcut is pretty easy compared to the pay type. I went on to get and learn Davinci Resolve but because I don't use it everyday I find myself watching YouTube videos to relearn certain functions. It's like riding a bicycle; it comes back quickly.

I'm not much of creative type but for my video I use DaVinci Resolve. They are mostly videos I take with a GoPro and I also do some voice overs on them. Some times I import from my phone will do almost any editing you want and lots of how to videos on line.

I’m assuming you are working in standard video formats. On my computer DaVinci Resolve is extremely slow and error-filled.

I like OBS, although it takes some time to learn user interface for flow, video formats and screen formats.

For cut-and-splice post processing AVIdemux is good and easy. Auto Gordian Knot is a great automatic format converter, and VirtualDub deserves an honorable mention.

If you’re stuck revising DVD video files you can rip them with DVD Decrypter, cut and splice them in DVD Shrink, rejoin them in VOB Merge, and convert formats in Auto Gordian Knot.
