Had to fight a diesel fire on one of our vehicles once, the driver had hit driven the pig to the side of the road, hit the brake and leaped out with his cammie pants on fire, forgot to kill the engine. So diesel kept pumping into the engine compartment to feed the fire. Someone threw on his Nomex gloves and managed to reach under the hatch coaming to hit the Halon system while another Marine suppressed the flames with a CO2 extinguisher, and even the Halon didn’t stop it. I think we went through 4 CO2 bottles killing that fire. Very unpleasant.
That sounds really horrendous! Yike!
Diesel is hard to start.
Even harder to stop..................
